replacement antenna solved?
I bought a replacement Nokia 5160/6160 antenna as suggested by another post ($15 shipped) and then with some careful grinding/cutting/gluing managed to get a reasonable fit on the VP. Performance is just as good as the original antenna, though physically t sticks out a little more.
For those that need to duplicate, use a grinding wheel to carefully remove the plastic indents on the Nokia antenna shaft, then use a razor to trim the lower 3/8" off the shaft, then cut the antenna contact right where it starts to bend - then re-form a new bend with a pliers. Slide it in with the contact towards the front of the VP and check signal strength. I did not modify the VP at all. Glue once you're confident the signal is there.
Hopefully good for another million miles - or until the Treo 600 is at a reasonable price.
