Question

it is possible to _receive_ faxes and /or data calls (like ras callbacks) using the visorphone and some appropriate application?
(like fax or zboxz for faxes)

I'm able to send faxes with my visor and my gsm phone via irda, but I can't find a way to receive them. My phone receives the fax call but does not "route" it through the irda port to the Visor, I _hope_ the visorphone can do it since it's integral part of the Visor.
(this, of course, is a problem also for data calls)

Have you tried?

bye&thanks

The VisorPhone does support faxing, but no current Palm OS fax software can work with it. I'll try to find the fax specs tonight.

Thank you for the interest

regarding fax support:

the program zfaxz, from zboxz suite ( http://palmboxer.sourceforge.net/ ), handles incoming faxes

_it seems_ to me that it's using standard AT commands to deal with the modem (since I'm not even a decent programmer I cannot be certain), if the visorphone can be wiewed as a normal modem in prefs I guess it can be handled without problems.
(and I think so, since everybody seems to be happyly browsing the net with it )

anyway I can't figure out a way to test it, is it possible to send visorphone AT commands in some way to check it? (well, I think no, but hope is hard to die )

regarding data support:

this is an even bigger problem, since I do not even know of some software able to handle incoming ras callbacks.
In the network pane there is a canned nt ras connection, but just for outgoing calls, and the scripting pane does not provide more help.

bye&thanks

(ps: I know I'm wasting everyone's time with silly questions, but I'm so curious )
(pps: besides, I need the infos also for work, but that's secondary )

Question Support for Visor Phone in Europe

I'd be interested to know if there is going to be a launch of a European version of the VisorPhone.

If so, anyone know when we might see the launch?

Lee

Question Re: modem use

Do you really have to pay the extra $5 per month to use the modem feature, and are you really billed separately for data calls?

It depends on the carrier. There was no extra charge for VoiceStream.

James, thank you for an excellent excellent review of the visorphone! I agree, that especially with the modem feature that one would want to have a history of minutes used. I hope in the near future we will see the visorphone available in the voicestream plans and that handspring would package blazer together with the visorphone.

Talking Another review

In addition to James' wonderful review of the VisorPhone, Shawn Barnett's Pen Computing review of the VP is also worth reading.
