Question Help with my VDX + nokia 8290!!!

I had a vdx and visor phone for quite a while and I was able to dial to Voicestream ISDN to browse the web etc.
Until recently I purchased my nokia 8290 phone. I downloaded IRenhance lib and IRlink(trial version) and was able to establish IR connection between the phone and VDX. I saw a Data call(the D symbol at the upper left corner of the phone) was established. But nothing happened afterwards. the VDX screen simply says dialing forever, where as it took7 or 8 seconds if I use visor phone to log on. After about 1 minutes, the phone call just hung up by itself. No error codes.. When I put my visorphone module again, and change IR to serial, it logged on just fine. So this couldn't be a passwd or modem string problem.

Anybody has a clue?

What modem init string are you using?

For the modem in a Nokia 82xx (mine is an 8210) you need to set the init string depending on what sort of connection you want.

For 14k4 data (not supported by all networks), you need

AT+cbst=14,0,1;

For a 9k6 v110 ISDN call, use

AT+cbst=71,0,1;

You can fine all these codes in the file ATcommands8210.pdf which nestles somewhere under forum.nokia.com, as far as I recall.

I'm not sure if Nokia's T&Cs on the site allow me to email a copy to you.

Nigel.

My string is
AT&FX4;+cbst=71,0,1 --It worked with my visorphone..Maybe I should change this since now it's a infared device.. Can you email the copy? my email address is [email protected]. Thanks a lot!

edit: the string is actually wrong.. the correct one is AT&F+cbst=71,0,1;&W

Now I was able to use my nokia 8290 to connect to the internet!!!
