Question

I had to hard reset my handheld and when I HotSynced it with my address book, the addresses do not show up on my handheld. The strange thing is - all the addresses show up on my Palm Desktop!

I tried to select desktop overwrites handheld, create a new user name in the Palm Desktop, reset my Visor, but nothing works.

HotSync of the date book, memo pad and to-do-list works fine...

Any suggestions?

Jo.

You can try selecting 'Merge' from the 'File' menu. You will then need to navigate to the 'User Data' file from 'Palm/Users/<hotsync name>' directory.

In your HotSync Conduit Settings you will need to change the action to 'Desktop Overwrites Handheld' for the 'Address Book' conduit. All of the others should be set to 'Do Nothing'.

This should bring your addresses back, but be forewarned it also has the potential to create 'duplicate entries'.

Good luck

Ed,

I'm not sure what you mean by 'Merge'... Can't find that command under the 'File' menu. If you mean 'Import' the archived addresses, I've done it already - doesn't work.

I have even tried to HotSync with another computer where I've created a new user name. The strange thing is - all the addresses show up there! That means that they are somehow transfered to my Visor, but just doesn't show there.

Any other ideas?

Jo.

Are you sure they are not under unfiled catagory? Hard reset deletes catagorys.

I mean merge

Jo.

I did mean 'Merge'. I use Palm desktop 2.6 on my Macintosh and it does have a Merge menu as well as an Import/Export menu. When I had a similar problem with my Prism a few months ago I was instructed by support to use the 'Merge' menu to bring back the lost records.

So, I am to assume that you are using a PC and perhaps a newer version of Palm desktop. Have you contacted Handspring support yet?
