My contract will being running out April 1st with Verizon, and I couldn't be happier because the people they have working at the store here are complete idiots. They originally promised that I could use a Palm/Visor with their network but they were wrong, they don't have any sort of data capability. They've been promising data capability is expected "in the next 2 months" for the past year!

Anyways, Qwest (Formerly US West) has just come to my city and they offer data capability. I'm presuming it is CDPD.

I was wondering if anyone has had good/bad experiences with them, specifically with connecting their Visor to the network. Right now I'm looking at getting either a Kyocera 1960 or a Startac. I'd really like the StarTac, but I'm choking on the $200 price tag.

I figure with the Startac Cable being sold on these boards the it will cost me $85 more than the Kyocera plan. Does anyone have any opinions on which system is better?

Any advice is appreciated!

Qwest is horrible. Since they are the only company in my area we HAVE to deal with them for both phone and DSL service. They are horribly inept when it comes to customer care. They have screwed up ALL THREE of my DSL installations. Their ISP service fairly poor, at best. It typically takes a good week to get a problem fix. Ugh...I could go on.

I used their cell phone service for about 2 months. They had so many holes in their service that I had to find another provider.

The biggest servce hole was centered on my house. They never admitted that the service didn't work here. It wasn't until a year later when I had to have their service people out (someone on my block cut the phone line...it took me a week to convince them of that and that they need to come fix it!) that the techs actually admitted that there was obviously a serious problem in my neighborhood.

Anyways, I have logs of 20+ hours I have spent on the phone with Qwest/USWorst over the past 2 years. I'd suggest running far away from this company.

I use Qwest for my local telephone and haven't had the trouble you speak of and since they're the only one with wireless web thats affordable (Nextel plans start at $60 for like 200 minutes) I'm going to go out on a limb and try them. Theres always 30 days...

As for DSL, Arg...I'd have that right now if for some stupid reason they didn't use fiber! However, since Qwest took over US West I've seen significant improvements not to mention they've actually begun to bring these new technologies here.

Be lucky you don't have Verizon service... (I do), they make Quest seem responsive and attentive! I WISH I only had to wait a week for service!..!!!!! And Quest actually admits to problems on their end, amazing.. simply amazing.. you don't know how lucky you are..

Thumbs down Qwest

Qwest, formally USWest is likely the poorest run company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Their customer service is abysmal. It takes too long to speak to anyone and they do not seem to know or do anything even when you do get through. Each time I phoned, I was on hold for over 1/2 an hour.

When I first moved to this state it took 6 weeks just to get residential service after multiple multiple phone calls; the first being several weeks before I arrived. Keep in mind I live in a very large metropolitan area.

After I finally received service, I began receiving multiple bills for the same service. It took 8 more phone calls and 3 months of multiple billing before this problem was "resolved". It was 'resolved' by USWest by deactivating all my service. It took 3 more phone calls to supervisors before my service was restored after 5 days. At this point, I called the government oversight authority in my state only to be told that I my situation was "minor" compared to what others endure.

Avoid USWest/Qwest like the plague.

Well, matthew...just be sure to come back in a month and let us here of your problems just so we can say "told you so"

Seriously...let us know how it works. I've always said that their service is great WHEN IT WORKS. When it DOESN'T work, you are pretty much left on your own to figure out why and to call the appropriate person (which is NEVER available) and BEG them to fix it.

Good luck!
