Xircom 802.11b SWE and D-Link WAP
After a few wasted hours, I finally managed to get my Handspring Deluxe and Xircom SWE talking to my D-Link Access Point (WAP). The joys of being only semi-technical.
Originally I had the IP Address set to Dynamic and could not establish a connection. Once I changed it to Static, I was up and running.
Here are my settings;
CLIENT SETTINGS
Client Name; Xircom SWE
Profile; 1
Network ID; Office (this is the SSID I use in my office)
Encryption; Disable
Select Advanced Settings:
IP Address
Static
Default Gateway; select these setting from the D-Link Manager AP Manager (see later **)
Subnet Mask; 0 0 0 0
Network Type
Infrastructure
Power Management
Enable
NETWORK SETTINGS
Service; Xircom
User Name; temp
Password; temp
Phone; 00
Select Details
Connection Type; PPP
Idle timeout; Power Off
Query DNS; checked
IP Address; checked Automatic
** To find the Default Gateway values, go to the start menu on your PC and run the D-Link Wireless AP Manager, which you used to set up the WAP originally. Open your AP Manager file, in my case it's Office.apc. Select the Mac Address under the name of your wireless lan and select Access Point on the right panel of the screen. Use the IP Address here for the Default Gateway values in the CLIENT SETTINGS.
