Well, HS just filed for IPO. From what you know now, would you buy HS stock? If yes, Why? What about Palm's Stock? I think this will be a fun topic to discuss.

I plan on getting my hands wrapped around their stalk They started off pretty rocky with their cs but they seam to have gotten all there ducks in a row, and once we get some more 3rd party springboard mod going the popularity of the visor will excede the Palm.
I just hope they are not raising the money to cover debt.

If you think HS stock will be a good stock to have, why not Palm?
Palm has the OS. The same as Microsoft has DOS and Windows (but the gov. decided that they are monopoly, but that's another issue). The faster HS grows, the better it is for Palm.
Another issue is, how can you buy stock from a company that only has one product (as of this moment)?
Although the product may be arguably superior to others but others will catch up. I don't know whether you remember a company called Cincinnati Microwave, they made the ESCORT and PASSPORT radar detectors (I'm sure a few of you had those radar detectors)that were the best in the industry. Their stock went through the roof in the first couple years but they are pretty much out of business now because the competition caught up w/ them. And they are not the only one like that.
I don't know whether HS has anything up their sleeves, but I won't buy their stock because of just the Visor. I might buy the stock for short term speculative reason but because of the hype I think the stock will be way over value.
Just a thought.

Go to Nasdaq.com and do an IPO search for Handspring's S1 filing. Makes for some interesting reading.

No matter which stock it is, if you can get your hands on them in the first day then it will rise a lot.

As of yesterday, Palm's stock drop below its IPO price of $38. It was up as high as $165. Do you think Handspring is going to be similar?

1). Goto www.nasdaq.com
2). select "IPOs" from the page header menu,
3). Search for Company Name; "Handspring" on left side of page.

Then look at Palm pricing history.

Who say that you have to have a product to sell stocks? Look at all those dot coms. A lot of them all they have is a bunch of links .

I would definitely invest in handspring. Why? Because I believe it is here to stay. I also have a lot of faith in the team that run the company. I believe that over time, handspring will expand into other areas net/wireless appliances perhaps? I also believe that over time handspring with have a variety have visors to choose from....maybe say a linux visor for all the bells and whistles folks and a palm os visor for the simple folks. I really can't see Handspring sticking only with the Palm OS. There is only so much it can do. With the soon to be released pocket pc, the palm os will finally have some competition IMHO. The linux OS can be used to counter pocket po's insurgence in the marketplace.

Just my 2 cents...

I agreed w/ you that HS has the flexibility to make/sell PDAs on any platform. I believe it's their advantage over Palm. Who knows, Pocket PC or other platform might take over the market in the future. But I have to say that I'm on the fence for now, although I really love my Visor.
To me, HS is a pretty new company. The co. just started to sell their products 6 months ago. I realized that the management has proven track records but ,somehow, the launching of products were not planned well. We can look back at all the problems they had since October. I'm aware that most of the problems had been addressed, but, I believe, they (problems) are still fresh in people's mind.
HS should build a solid presence in the retail stores before they worry about issue an IPO of their stocks. Also, they should wait until more springboards are released to the consumer.
So far HS is nothing but potential, but I guess, people buy stocks because of its potential,... right?.

I'd say earning 20 million in 6 months is not too bad. Granted Handspring is a company that's getting it's legs underneath it, it probably will do well. I wouldn't be surprised to see similar volitility that Palm say after going public. And I'd rather put my money into a company making something than some dot com that's only worth money until the market panics.

Yes, they probably earn over $20 million dollars in six month. I guess what I'm trying to say is .. it's hard for me to buy stock from a company that only has 6 months track record. I agreed w/ you that buy HS stock is better than buying a dotcom stock. But w/ only 6 mos+ track record, to me it's a guessing game. You can call me conservative.
