I think a Mini Disc drive would be a good Springboard... Maybe a little too big to be a Springboard... but hey! Its a nice idea

It wouldn't be too big. The IBM MicroDrive fits in a compactFlash slot, which is smaller than the SpringBoard slot. The problem is that hard drives are mechanical and will suck the life out of your batteries. Even TRG, makers of the TRGPro, acknowledge that the MicroDrive is fairly useless because of battery life. Better to go with Flash memory, which is commonly available in CompactFlash form factor. We just need a SpringBoard CompactFlash reader.

The other problem with Micro Drives is they are quite expensive and not as avalible as flash cards.

By mini disc do you actually are you actually refering to a "Mini Disc" or just small disc? Checking the form factor between my MDs and the springboard it is pretty obvious that the MD has no hope of fitting (aprox. an inch to big), any MD module would have to be oversize. Though that would give the developer the room to place an extra battery pack so that the mechanical drive mech. does not suck the AAAs dry.

I believe the reference was to the IBM MicroDrive and other micro sized drives coming out for compact flash sockets. I know the post said Mini Disk. You are correct that the Sony MiniDisk is much too large to fit into a visor, but the IBM MicroDrives are small enough that they are made for CompactFlash and that form factor does fit the Springboard slot.
