I always thought that too. Actually, canceling is spelled with 1 "L". The reason I even checked on a spell checker was for the same reason (to catch somebody in a misdeed). If you cancel your hotsync, it says "Canceling - Please wait"...

According to Webster's, CANCELING can be spelled with 1 or 2 L's... as can CANCELED, LABELED, LABELING, TRAVELED, TRAVELING, etc... ( personally, I prefer the 1 variation).

I really do need to get a life if I've resorted to looking up spellings in the dictionary!!!

Well I guess I was the only one with that problem. Like MarkEagle, I checked my dictionary and sure enough either is proper. I guess I'm just a double L kinda guy.
