I gotta vdX hoping to expand its capabilities & space, i've looked into both the cf adapters & the memplug, & know I call on the wisdom of the cult. tell me, which does your experience feel is superior?

I have and I like both of them.
If you just need to transfer file back and forward between visor, Innopocket is faster.
but if you want watch movie on smart media or performance doesn't matter for you, choose memplug.
I like memplug software and ability better(in color too), but it's slower than my Innopocket. I don't know if it's the hardware or software problem.
I just use both back and forward.
Good Luck!

I think that memplug is a better soloutino becasue it is a True Springboard, uses Cheaper Memory, and is a compelte soloution. I do not have a Memplug or a CF adapter, this is based jsut on reading. (sp)

Matchbook

I have a matchbook drive, and am not real happy with it. It works wonderfully, just as advertised and it is nice and fast, but...

When my Visor hard crashes in the field, I cannot reload the stuff on the Compact Flash card until I reload the file mover software.

From my research, it also uses more battery power than the MemPlug.

The Matchbook lets the CF card protrude a bit, which the Inno doesn't, AND that protrusion blocks some cases, fliplids, etc.

Hey, I am also interested in where you heard that.

From a more reliable source, we have no new hardware release on 3/31.

However, on 3/28, a software update will be provided for registered Memplug owner free of charge:
1. PiMover Preference to disable sound, and sorting
2. PiBackup minor bug fix and preference to disable sound

We also have a free application PalmDoc Reader -- CSpotRun that can directly access SmartMedia card for download, users must first update their module, before running this CSpotRun application.

Pls keep an eye on www.memplug.com and remember to register your Memplug.

The new palms don't use smart media cards, they use SD (Secure Digital)(which is like MMC - Multi Media Card) only they are a bit thincker and about 2/3 size of a smartmedia card.. (about the size of a postage stamp). If someone made a SD version of the memplug, then they should work in the Visor..

Cool

i have both and the only real tiebreaker is the software. i like the backup (though slow sometimes) and the picture viewer. but in retrospect i probably could have lived with just my innopocket. it does all i really need.

Question

PiDeveloper,

You said that there is no hardware change scheduled to be released on 3/31. Is there a hardware change in the works?
I would really like to see the memplug be flush like the Innopocket.

Thanks

It's 3/28! Where's the beef? I mean where's the CSpotRun, and updates?

Thumbs up Flush is lush

thats the main reason I started this poll. I really like the capabilties of the memplug, but if I have to pull the visor from all the way outta the case just to use it.. thank you no. I'm still in consideration. right now I think that innopocket board is a winner. though the ability doesn't match the memplug.. in short, I'd love to have a tail. it'd increasxse balance & I'd never need a chair, but my pants would have to be tailor made, what a pain.

Hang in there I'm not at liberty to discuss the details, but I can say that Kopsis is working with the CF adapter vendors as well as third-party software developers to give CF users the same kinds of capabilities that MemPlug users currently enjoy ... and more

Thumbs up

David Kessler, thanks for the update. Good news. I have the Innopocket and a Handspring memory module. The ScanDisk 64mb card works great in the Innopocket. The HS module is on the shelf. A Memplug is on the way, but I really may not keep it if you deliver.

EXCELLENT. That is exactly what I wanted to hear. I am sold on the compact flash solution. Too bad I can't change my vote in the poll. I sure hope that I do not have to get a new module in order to use the new features. I am puzzled how you going to make the compact flash solution a TRUE springboard module.

I am a visor user and seeking a memory solution. In the 1st place, the MemPlug seems to be a perfect solution to me. However, after reading the message above, I want to know more the detail before taking real action.

When will the new CF adapter available? Will it be a true SpringBroad? What kind of software will be bundled? Will I be able to run application directly off a CF? If I buy a CF adapter now, how can I upgrade my software? Will the upgrade be free or not? I am keen to know the detail before buying either a CF adapter or MemPlug.

Question Me need help too!

Can anyone help me too? I'm really Stuck because I not only have a 64 MB SM Card for my Camera but I also have a 128MB Cf card.

Now I could see myself using the memplug to view pics and movies and stuff that I take with my Camera, and store data. Also it makes backups, Thats cool! But I do have a Backup Module (It's Clear too!) I think that the new color for the memplug is just uuuuuugllyyy but could live with it.
Now see the Cf Card has so much memory, I wouldn't have to worry about filling it up. Battery life isn't an issue with me. If one or the other comes out with the ability to read direct from the card It's no contest but for now I'm stuck. Any ideas?

The big advantage the memplug has over the CF solutions is all the applications (including the backup/restore programs)are stored in FLASH memory on the springboard -- the memplug is a "true" springboard, so, for instance you have to hard reset your visor while you are on the road and away from your PC, well, it's pretty easy to restore from the smart media card with the memplug as the PiBackup program is on the springboard and you don't have to "hotsync" it back to be able to restore your visor... In my mind this is why the current CF springboards are not acceptable (no disrespect to Dave Kessler & KOPSIS - I really admire the work he has done)

The memplug is available now.. It's unknown how long it will be until the CF versions are around..

Also, (retail - not eBay) SmartMedia seems to be cheaper than compact flash megabyte per megabyte.

I also want to add PiBackup seems fairly quick, possibly quicker than my Handspring backup module.

Also, CspotRun allows you to read PDB (docs) directly from the card, no need to load them into the Visor's memory, again, this is available RIGHT NOW..! I have over 40mb of converted adobe acrobat PDF files (text only) loaded on my smart media card, the entire reference manuals for two relational database server products.. (very handy)

No, you can't run applications directly from the card -- well not yet anyway... No "flash" solution can yet..

The PiMover program is really nice too, I used it to move over 2mb of seldom used programs, pqa, and PDB files onto the smartmedia card, freeing up valuable Visor internal memory for other purposes.

One last thing, PiViewer lets you view your digital camera pictures on your Visor -- if your camera uses smartmedia (mine does, very handy for me), additionally you could copy any jpg image to the card and view it.

I would WITHOUT HESITATION vote for the memplug as the MODULE OF THE YEAR -- It's really nice, multi purpose, and inexpensive..

Any more questions?
