Eeeeeeeek!!! Any advice?

I was giving my friend my ibm thinkpad tonight. As she attempted to plug in the powercord (without looking) she plugged it into the usb slot by accident. Of course, it doesn't fit and the plastic had broken off the usb connector so.... it appears that the thinkpad is fried. Ugh. This might be a dumb question, but is there anyway this can be fixed? Or... can a motherboard be replaced? Any ideas would be welcome.

have you pried atht eh usb socket? maybe there's something shorting in there. computers refuse to start up if somethings shorting, and i kinda suspect that power->usb socket would just fry the usb controller.
