I received my eyemodule today ... not bad ... works best in good light ... smallest b/w works best quality wise ... synching takes a long time ... two apps sent with package, one a freeware package called MediaCenter ... I do NOT recommend loading it if you have NT 4.0 ... I had to blow it out. Otherwise, I'm reasonably happy (note, I am not a high end graphics guy ... as such, I am easily pleased in this area).

I took the identical photo at all three resolution levels off a tabletop to see how it wpuld look. My opinion?

Small b/w best
Large b/w worst

Here's my review:

Its not as tiny as I thought, and the black plastic sure contrasts my Blue case, but it seemed pretty cool when I first inserted it in to my springport (I haven't tried any other Springports- it was my first time <grin> ). The picts i shot came out pretty crummy, i was surprised how crappy they were actually, but no fear! i upped the resolution on my monitor away from 256 colors to the 2nd highest, and the pict was significantly better. not the best, like a digital camera, but certainly near the quality of the picts on the eyemodule page.

The first few times i played with it, the visor image would "glitch" up, and i think it might have something to do with all the hacks i am running, most specifically the afterburner hack. I am trying to narrow it down to the afterburner, but mysteriously, the glitching has stopped.

I dunno if it was me, but i felt that the batteries were really being eaten up by having a live view on my screen all the time. The image on the screen is pretty crummy looking... hard to see what you've taken a picture of unless the contrast is set pretty high, and i agree that synching takes a while (i have a serial cradle hooked up to an NT machine right now), but its pretty seamless and works as expected. the shots arent stellar, and arent going to replace your Sony 505 anytime soon but for the occasional pictures of pets playing or taking pictures of wine bottle labels or menus or the license plate of a parked car that hit-and-ran you the other night, then it does the job. and the instant gratification of a digital camera is pretty snazzy too.

my only complaint is i only have a couple megs left on my visor, and that leaves room for about 10 shots (prolly less) so I better delete some stuff.

I wish that I could jsut sync the eyemodules only, instead of trying to backup all of m visor.

and finally... is there anyway to delete all of my avant go material without deleting the channel? it takes up 1+ Mb, and soemtime when im takign picts and run out of memory, that would be the first thing that I could delete without worrying about lost content.

to delete avant go content, go to the channel manager (in the channel menu or command+E) and it will give you the option to clear content without deleting the channel. everything will restore on your next hotsync.

also, before deleting other stuff to make room for more pix, you might look into an 8mb flash card. this could be used for e-books or other bulky not-everyday items, and it would clear some space for pix. any pix you want to save for visor use only could also be stored on the flash module and you'd be set.

lastly, i don't know of any way to sync only one pdb back to the computer without a ton of hassle - way more than it would be worth, i fear.

Has anybody developed a freeware PIX Viewer application for the Palm devices?
I would like to download & view some
of these EyeModules snap shots on my Visor.

Thanks for the Avant Go help... it worked, obviously, and i freed up some space, but i still only have 1.2MB free on my Dlx. doh! i guess I really dont need 2 different map programs. oh well. thanks!

My thoughts on eyemodule:

I agree with what is stated in the review above, but here's an addition I would like to see. I wish the software would let me send a picture as an e-mail attachment directly from my visor...

i've been thinking about buying the eymodule and have been wondering if emailing pix from the visor was a possibility. do you have multimail? or are you trying to do it with palm's default program. i know multimail supports attachments from other applications, but since the eyemodule is new, they may not have gotten that far. but if you just have the default program, maybe multimail would help...

Got my eyemodule yesterday, but can't get the eyemodule conduit software to load. I get as far as the second screen, hit the install button and then a "severe" errror message saying "can't find conduit". Spent an hour on the phone with tech support, and the best suggestion was to empty out the C drive onto a backup disk, and then restart the whole computer from scratch, load the eyemodule and then reload all the other software. Sounds like a lot of trouble to get a simple piece of software to run!!! Any ideas out there. I am running windows 98 on a Compaq 1277 laptop, and synching with the USB cradle.

You can get a piece of PC software and FireViewer (also called ViewerIII, I think) from palmgear.com that will turn various image formats into images viewable on your visor with the viewerIII software. It might not be entirely accurate, since the image went from eyemodule->jpg->viewerIII, but it might give you an idea.

after a week of use:

"Note to self: Hot syncing with serial cradle last interminably long when uploading eyemodule picts"

I have a seral at work, and a USB at home, and the serial is orders of magnitude slower (obviously). At work I dont need it to sync that quickly (since im "working") but just a warning to everyone who syncs with NT.

Hello,

Got my eyemodule today. Took some funky pics on the NYC Subway. A little fuzzy but that thing bounces like mad.

Going to test it good for about 15 days and if I'm not happy will send back for a refund.

But for the price I think it will do me fine.
