Granted, CompUSA's service is less than stellar, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that a store, "sucks" just because one item you purchased doesn't work.
You should definitely elaborate more on how you're using the modem when sending a message. Are you using it properly? Are you plugging it into a live telephone line, or are you trying to plug the modem into one of those digital lines in offices (in which case you've probably damaged the modem beyond repair and there's nothing that CompUSA or handspring can do for you except feel sorry for you). There are way too many people that simply want things to work right the first time and when it doesn't work right, right out of the box, they simply say it's defective and return the product. They don't seem to think that maybe they might be using the product wrong (7 times out of 10 they are).
You should contact Handspring about this problem. It's their product and if it's not working properly, they would want to know. Then, just do what they tell you (if they tell you to bring it back to the store, then you have something to say to the CompUSA droids rather than, "my product doesn't work. I want a new one."
I contacted handspring this thursday due to a screen problem with my Visor. Bottom line is they were able to ship another Visor out by FedEx overnight and I received it Friday! Now that's what I call service!
PS - If you don't like Handspring's (or Palm's) non-toll-free technical support number, just go to http://www.dialpad.com and call them using dialpad! You can make long distance telephone calls anywhere in the US for free over the Internet! On cable/dsl/ethernet, there's almost no difference between regular long distance,...
