Question

I was wondering about Visors support for NiMH batteries. It seems that only palmOS 3.3+ has support for the shortcut in memopad to support NiMH batteries w/o any hacks and other proggies. I was wondering if Handspring added support for this in OS3.1h/2? I have NiMH batteries currently in my Palm Pro and am purchasing a Visor next week. If it does not, what program can i get to support them. Currently my Palm Pro doesnt really support them, i just change them out frequently and recharge them.

I have NiMH in my Visor, and the alarm works fine. It'll let you know in plenty of time to change your batteries. (There are programs to change the battery sensor to work more accurately with them, but I just use Runtime.)

You can either use hacks or the memopad shortcut. Both have worked fine for me.

The "profiles" for NiCad and NiMH are the same. Using the NiCad setting on the Visor yields satisfactory results. I've been using NiMH's for about 2 months now and couldn't be happier with their performance, not to mention that they've already paid for themselves!

Question

How do you change your settings to NiCad Settings?!?! Is that without a hack?!? If so, where do you change it in the settings?

You can select NiCad by using one of the "shortcut" commands while in MemoPad...

<shortcut>.7

The <shortcut> character is done by writing what amounts to a lower-case cursive "L" followed by a "dot" (2 taps in Graffiti) and finally the number 7. This will cycle through the 3 available battery settings: Alkaline, NiCad, and Rechargeable Alkaline. When [NiCad] is displayed, the NiCad voltage profile (again, similar to NiMH) will be used by the Visor.

Thanks Mark!!!

I really appreciate it!!! It shows my batteries being MUCH more full then it said before! I'm sure I'll probably get another few hours off of them now!

P.S. Do you have to worry about a quick fade off near the end?

P.P.S. Do you know any other shortcuts to change things on the visor? Do you have a website with a list of them? (I know the reverse backlight one doesn't work with the Visor (though I wish it did!))

The drop-off is not a problem with NiMH, only with NiCAD.

A list of shortcuts is available here: http://www.palmgear.com/faq/faq.cfm...=61&catID=3

But of course, the members at VisorCentral beat me to it.
