Question

I am in the works of creating the ultimate PDA carrying case, for all of your accessories, springboards, keyboards, wallet, keys, etc, and for this, I need your suggestions. What do you think should be included in this product? What materials would you like it to be made out of? Colors? This is your chance for your voice to count in the creation of a very exicting new product. Make any requests you think would be good, as I am planning for these to be compatible with the GoType and Stowaway keyboards as well as WinCE compatible.

Oo, that's a good question. To tell you the truth, there's already a few nice large-sized PDA cases out there -- the RhinoPack 3000, for example -- but I'd personally like a play-though holster similar to the Rhodiana case that allowed you to carry an extended Springboard, like the Handspring modem.

You read my mind! I have had my Blue VDx for a little less than a week. I am looking for a case that will carry currency (bills and coins), credit card slots and a key hook and/or shoulder strap would be great. For those of us women who don't carry a purse (if there are any other ones like me), carrying the visor and my wallet is not only cumbersome but I'm afraid of dropping my visor. Franklin Covey has a neat case but it's over priced for me. It has a spot for the PDA, than a divider that has a notepad on one side and I believe a pocket for bills on the other side. On the back flap are credit card slots. I believe there is also a zippered pocket outside. The neat part I like about this one is that there is a strap that you can purchase that attaches to it and makes it into a purse of sorts. That way, if you don't want to carry it over your shoulder, you don't have to. If you do, you have the strap alternative.

Leather is nice, but I would love to have one made out of

Here is the Franklin Covey one:
http://cert.franklincovey.com/cgi-b...c+Planning+Solu tions

It's about half way down the page and it's called the Universal Case. The strap is right below it.

I would love to see a combo of that one and a combo of the COACH one I'm going to be purchasing (maybe):

I apologize for rattling on. Please let me know if you come up with anything. I'm getting to the point of desperation! Please feel free to email me as well at [email protected]

I use a case from Sumdex called the Universal PDA case. Doesn't have the shoulder strap but has a small leather strap. When I bought mine they offered it in leather and a canvas material. I don't see the latter on their web site any more.

I tried out several cases before I found this one and am very pleased with it.

I really dislike cases that require you to use velcro - what's nice about the sumdex is 1) it has several pockets that will accomodate the visor and the smaller springboards like the backup module and 2)it's really convenient to just slide it out and slip it in the original slip case when I want to travel really light.

Would be nice if it had one outside pocket. I'd also like them to take the same idea and make one a little larger to accomodate the Stowaway.

Question

I have been looking at that case too. I'm afraid for me, it has too many pockets and slots I would put to much junk in it. But I have been watching those on ebay. I guess I really have my heart set on the COACH case. I'm not real thrilled with the velcro attachments either.

By the way, I'm a new visor owner. Can someone please tell me what a Stowaway is? I apologize for my ignorance.

I just found this one on the Sumdex website:
http://www.sumdex.com/leather_deluxe_travel_wallet.htm

It still doesn't have a coin pocket however I don't have a cell phone and might be able to use that pocket for change. It does have the shoulder strap I'm looking for.

oh, are you in for a treat. this is the stowaway. what a beauty.

also, i own and use a rhinopak 3000. it's more masculine (even with the "man-purse" factor) than what it seems you're looking for, but it holds my visor, springboards, stowaway, and checkbook, and it seems to make some people happy.

anyway - that's off topic for this thread. what i would like to see in this new magicase is something set up like a traveler's passporter bag, where they can hold essentials and a camera and money and keys and whatever, but instead of the form factor of the rhino3k, the pockets line up on top of one another, so the thing has more neccessary depth than neccessary width. there would be a padded divider in the main pocket for pda/keyboard and plenty of little pockets in a second compartment for springboards of multiple size. the pockets could have webbing to make them expand and contract when (not)in use. like the rhino series, there could be flatter pockets for tix, checkbook, and c., on the back/front flap, and the whole thing would be of cordura or ballistic nylon. i like the strap idea too, but the strap should make the thing hang long vs. wide (i.e.: if your breifcase hung a t a 90 degree angle than it does now, but on a smaller scale.) seems to me the whole thing could come in below r3k's dimensions.

by the by, this whole new urban-hip 9as in cool, not anatomy) backpack/carryall/whatever thing is pretty cool and no one is better at it, in my humble opinion, than yakpak. it might be worth checking them out for aesthetic reasons. just to get the juices flowing.

my .02.

I let you guys in a little on the basics of what I will be making. The backpack will fit diagonally across the shoulder. the front strap will be able have a spot for your cell phone, while the rear will be where keys, wallet, checkbook, PDA, keyboard, will be kept - even a pocket for change. It will be approximately the width of the height of the visor while being about 4-5 times that in length. there will be a special pocket for the PDA made out of neoprene that will be able to withstand a light rain with no damage to the PDA as well as provide some cushioning should you drop the backpack.

If you already own a carrying case, what would you like to see improved about it? What do you already like about the products taht are out there? Any ideas and suggestions are welcome. A special thank you to those that have emailed me personally, and feel free to keep doing so.

drgandy:

sounds awesome!

i am definitely interested in the final product!

are there pockets for springboards/accessories (phone cord, etc)? how about color choices? the more color choices the better, i say.

when are you looking to release? fall? winter?

Thumbs up

I am definitely interested in the final product as well. If I already have a case (which, right now, all I have is that silly case that comes with the Visor), will there be a pocket to carry that in it? Will there be a smaller version that doesn't have so many pockets.

As for the stowaway, that is very cool. But $99? That seems like a whole lot of money that I really can't invest in. I really don't need it with a cradle at here and at work. But it is a very cool concept.

Keep us posted on the bag! Good luck!

I might be interested in your "ultimate PDA carrying case". I would be carrying in it my Visor, a Nokia cellular phone, driving license, some credit cards, few business cards, keys, and a Parker ball point pen. Perhaps spare batteries for the Visor.

When will you have some Beta-test units or prototypes available?

Cheers, Lubos in the Texas Hill Country part of Austin.

P.S.
When it rains here, it is often a very heavy rain. I have a waterproof "rain-cover" for my camera bag, which most of the time is in the bag's side pocket -- but offers a great protection against hard rain when needed. It takes about a minute to remove the cover from the pocket, and put the bag into it. Perhaps you should offer a similar accessory.

From your description, I'm envisioning a rambo ammo holster look-alike that sits diagonally from one shoulder down to the opposite hip. Or a girl scout badge thingy? Is that the basic idea?
The current case I'm using now is a modified Franklin Covey Case. It holds about 6 'credit cards', cash, 2 spare batteries (that's my mod )driver's license, visor, and some other misc. notes in a small pcket under the visor. The thing I would like changed about it is: hands free carrying. but I don't want something that makes me look like a M:i2 agent or like more of an ber-geek
