Visor to Mobile Phone Cables

Looks like Gomadic (http://www.gomadic.com) has expanded their Visor (and Visor EDGE) to Mobile phone line to include Samsung, Kyocera, Motorola and Sanyo models. At $27.95 these are the cheapest I've seen.

Question

I've been thinking about getting a modem, but this may be just the thing. I have a few questions (I'm totally ignorant about this kind of stuff). I have a Visor Deluxe, and a Sanyo 4500 with Sprint PCS. Will I be able to get web pages? E-mail? What browser do I need? Do I just use my regular ISP (MSN.com) and one of their local dial-up numbers, or will I need another? And can I use it out of town by just selecting a local number for wherever I am? Thanks and appreciation to anyone who can help out with any answers!

With SprintPCS and a Visor Deluxe the cable will work perfectly. You will not require a modem, b/c your cell phone will act as one. With SprintPCS, you won't even require an ISP b/c Sprint can provide that connectivity as well (you just dial #2932). I would highly recommend Gomadic's cable!

Use the support portion of their site for configuration info (http://www.gomadic.com/support.htm). It tells you how everything works in more detail there.

Good luck!

Of course you would. But would someone who doesn't make any money from selling them recommend them as well?

FiveDime:

Yours is the same setup as mine (Visor Deluxe and a Sanyo SCP-4500.) I have the connecting cable, and I surf the web with it whenever I'm not home. I bought the cable from supplynet for $40, so the $27 price is a good deal...

The browser I use is Handspring Blazer. I have version 1.1, and Handspring just released v2.0, and I'm still trying to find it. The press release says that Sprint PCS users will be able to download the browser upgrade for free, and I'm still trying the find the URL on the Sprint site.

When you get the cable, there is an instruction card in the package that shows you how to set up your Visor to work with your phone. You don't need an ISP; the Sprint PCS network will give you a web connection. As long as you can surf the web on your phone, you can surf the web on your Visor.

Angry Self promotion?!?!?!?!?

Hey cayeldo, why don't you just state that you ARE gomadic.com and quit spamming the boards trying to sell your wares. Others sell their stuff BUT they don't hide and pretend they are not associated with the vendor.

I bought the cable for the Samsung 3500 to my Visor Plat. and I was very happy with how well it worked. I followed the instuctions on their webpage and was surfing the net in a couple of seconds.

With sprint pcs you don't need another isp, and i could check my @home pop3 mail account anywhere.

I would like it if they also posted some instruction on how to do a hotsync via the web or via the built in modem on the phone.

Question Verizon and Platinum

I have Verizon (I don't subscribe to their MobileWeb) and a Qualcomm2035a phone. I use Blazer 2.0 to browse and Eudora Internet Suite for email. So getting a cable is all I need to connect to the wireless net? Thanks for your input.
