Angry

I am having a lot of problems being auto-forwarded when I click on any discussion page. I suspect it is a banner at fault, but I don't know. I click on a topic, it takes me to the page, and I'm INSTANTLY forwarded from that page to some OTHER page which doesn't load correctly. I have to hit the STOP button really fast in order to stay on the right page. Since I'm on a T1, it's pretty hard to hit the Stop button before being forwarded to the "try reloading the page" message..........anyone else have this problem? Sysop, please address it.

Achilles,

I'm wondering, what type of mouse/OS/browser do you use?

I notice something similar on the occasional site (though I don't remember seeing it happen here) when I'm using a mouse with a scroll button (that is, actually using the scroll button to move down the page) on my Windows 98 machine and IE 5.

I am using a standard 2-button ps/2 mouse in Win98 with MSIE 5.0
I have been having this problem on and off for days, but it's the most severe now. It only occurs on this website.

Red face

I was having trouble with the site, so I thought I'd see if there was a discussion going on about it. Yep.

I'm using Netscape 4.7/Win98/MS IntelliMouse. I am experiencing problems with the site hanging up when loading the ad banner. If I turn off JavaScript, the page loads fine, but obviously, it can't get my prefs for this forum.

It doesn't do this all the time, but when it is giving me problems, I turn off JavaScript and it works.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Unhappy

For some reason the
"What kind of software are you looking for?"
page is way spread across my screen. I hate having to scroll sideways to read. As far as I know this is the only screen that's like that.

(dusting off tech support hat)

bpowell423 - There is a LOT of Javascript attached to the ad banners here, but see if turning off Java (and not Javascript) in Netscape helps. There is one banner here that's a Java applet, and since you mentioned it doesn't happen every time you visit...

If that doesn't do it, try the following steps to try and clear up your problem:
<OL TYPE=1>
<LI>Manually delete the Netscape history and cache files. To do this, close Netscape, open Windows Explorer, and go to: \Program Files\Netscape\Users\&lt;your_username&gt;. From there delete the file 'netscape.hst', and all files in the cache folder.
<LI>After deleting the files, run Scandisk on your system (a Standard scan test is enough).
</OL>
The problem you describe is more well known in relation to Java and Netscape, but the steps described above may help clear it in either case.

(returning tech support hat to shelf)

elmorg - One of the posts in the thread you mention has an extremely long URL (it's a message from a similarly named fellow to myself). Since the link for that URL isn't breaking well to multiple lines, it keeps the page from resizing at some point.

-- I guess this message counts as a 2fer --

I looked at the "What kind of software are you looking for?" topic and the reason it scrolls is because of a looooong url (it even scrolls on my 1024x768 screen). Ask zippy2 or the moderator to edit that posting.
