Just ordered a Visor a few days ago found out about the shipping problems...etc

But i have alotta questions on usage. This is my first PDA, and as an 8th grader I wonder on how it will last out in the rough conditions of a school, teens, and objects that can fly out of no where and hit the my front pocket where i plan to keep it.

1.) For you heavy users out there that use the batteries in 2-3 weeks time, how much do you use it per day?

2.) AvantGo seems like a wonder, but i bought the normal Visor (i would have LOOVED a deluxe but the budget permits and i didn't think i would need a lot of space, maybe Handspring will make a little mistake...)

How much memory do you dedicate to Avantgo?

3.) How durable is it? If you dropped it on concrete and/or stepped on it, what picture comes to mind?

4.) In response to the question above which i think i know the answer, how do you protect it, if at all?

5.) The most important: How does a Visor or any PDA change the way you work? Drastic or just a convenience?

I hope you can answer my questions. It seems that i might have a rough time getting my Visor. Maybe this will help me last out

BTW, it is worth the trouble right?

Thanks,
8th grade, to-be Visor owner, Student

I have the visor DX, I mostly use my visor throughout the day to put memos and look up telphone numbers. I have used a very little battery sapce since the 3 weeks I've had it. As far as protection the Visor comes with a plastic cover which will aid in protecting the screen. I would buy a leather case to add additional protection though. Mine took about 4 weeks to arrive. Good Luck

I would treat it very carefully... like any expensive electronics, it can be sensitive to falls/destruction. Mine fell off my lap onto a tile floor the other day (maybe 2-3 feet) with the cover on and was fine, but I just wouldn't recommend stress-testing it.

I know price is an issue, but it might be worth it for you to get a titanium case from Rhinoskin ( http://www.rhinoskin.com ) if you think a school environment might lead to potential damage.

AvantGo depends on how many sites you load up. I have about a dozen channels and it uses up 850k (roughly).

I have mine powered on about two hours a day, making fairly heavy use of the memopad, Tealdoc and ListMaker.

$$$ for a replacement unit.

A company, the URL of which total escapes me, makes some nifty (colored) neoprene cases for the Palm. The Visor might fit in those.

If you make use of it, it can make a drastic difference to your life. But you have to get into the habit of using it. I carry mine with me everywhere, so I always have it with me when I need it.

Good luck with your Visor!

Regarding Visor protection. The Titanium case is great, if you can afford it. It provides maximum protection, from drops or crushing force. If you are on a budget, which I assume you are since you are in eigth grade, I would reccommend a Rhino skin shocksuit. I have one and love it.

I also have a ShockSuit case and I love it. As far as battery life I got mine on Nov 15th and I just replaced the batteries last Friday. (So, 3 weeks).
I access my phone list and date book probably 5 to 10 times a day. I've read Treasure Island and Dr. Jeckyl & Mr. Hyde, and part of The Hacker Crackdown and 20k leagues under the sea in that time using CSpotRun. I've also played a ton of games on it (Lots of Palm Jong and Black Jack). So I think I've stressed the batteries pretty well. Although I've almost never used the backlight (It's useless in anything other than total darkness). So I'd expect taht 3 weeks is probably a minimum time that you could expect.
