WizCom Technologies to Develop a Scanning Pen for the Handspring Visor™

Users will be able to snap the pen module into the Springboard expansion slot, and scan text directly into any Palm™ OS application

Jerusalem, Israel, October 11, 1999 - WizCom Technologies Ltd. (WizCom) (Neuer Markt: WZM, WKN: 915856) announced today that it will develop a scanning module, in the form of a Pen, for Visor users. Visor users will be able to conveniently scan business cards, notes and any other printed text directly into their handheld computer. This QuickLink Module (QLModule) will serve as a convenient alternative method of entering text into the Visor.

Based on WizCom's QuickLink Pen™, WizCom will develop a generation of products for the Springboard expansion platform to be made available mid-2000. The QLModule will be plug and play, allowing users to plug the QLModule in and immediately benefit from scanning capabilities. "Integration of our technology into handheld devices, such as the Visor, will provide additional functionality, and flexibility to the mobile user," states David Gal, CEO of Wizcom Technologies, Ltd. "Personalizing the Visor with an easy-to-use affordable scanning device that simplifies data input will greatly contribute to the proliferation of mobile users, as well as standardization of the portable market." The module will provide similar functionalities found in that of the QuickLink Pen, enabling users to scan notes and addresses directly into their Visor. The QLModule will function as a convenient alternative to the Graffiti handwriting recognition software and will allow editing to the Visor without typing.

WizCom's QuickLink Pen is a state of the art, portable, optical scanner with stand-alone OCR capabilities. The QuickLink Pen allows users to scan virtually any printed text and transfer it to PC, laptop, PDA or cellular phone. The QuickLink Pen comes equipped with a number of applications, and as an open platform for third party developers, it can support additional applications based on the QT OS API. "Building a QL Pen module for the Visor is a natural extension of our plans to develop small, simple and compelling tools to make life easier for the mobile user," says Randy Green, President of Wizcom Technologies, Inc.

WizCom Technologies Ltd. is the world leader in portable scanning and recognition technologies. Their flagship product, Quicktionary - a hand-held scanning and translation device, overwhelmed the linguistic and educational markets around the world. To date, more than 500,000 units have been sold in over 30 countries. Anticipation is mounting regarding the QuickLink Pen, and soon to be released Quicktionary II, WizCom's second generation products. For more information, visit http://www.wizcomtech.com

AFAIK it was cancelled. (my conjecture follows) Wizcom decided that because their own scanner can IR it to a PDA, it wasn't worth the cost to develop a springbaord...

Exclamation Like this "postponed" SpingBoard Module?

WizCom Technologies confirmed via email that the release of the spingboard has been "postponed."

Please feel free to email:

Laura Gilniski (Director of Business Development) and share your wished/excitement about this module for the Visor.

Enough email communications will make it clear to WizCom that there is ample demand for such an OCR product within the Visor owning community.

Her email is:

Thanks!

What advantage would a module give you over the pen that is already available?
