Question

I was tring to hook my visor up with an external modem, but it's keep saying "modem not found".

one thing I noticed that, whenever I turn the visor off, the RD and SD signals on the modem turn on, and when the visor is on, those 2 signals keep off.

the cable and adapters I'm using are:
1, Visor's serial cradle (9 pin, F)
2, 9 pin M -> 25 pin F adapter
3, 25 pin M -> 25 pin F gender changer
4, 25 pin null modem adapter
(all these 3 adapters above are shielded and grounded)
5, USR Sportster 28800 external modem

TIA for the help!

Lightbulb

I have had success using a home made serial cable and connecting to my laptop or other serial device using "Online" terminal program from www.markspace.com. Are you trying to hotsync with this external modem? I think that the hotsync program is looking for the "handspring" modem not a generic external modem. I made my serial cable from this schematic on http://rus.homepage.com...
try the terminal program and something like "procomm" terminal software on your PC that will look at data coming in on the serial port.

FWIW,
I've gotten my IVDX to establish a ppp link throught the serial cradle to my Linux box using ppp and pilot-ppp (can be found on freshmeat.net). Anyone trying might need to add 'noauth' to the start scipt, I did.

On the visor side I had to put a blank space in username, password, and phone, and blank out the modem init to work.

Depending on your external modem it may need a different than the one currently selected, try just at&f for the USR.
