Question

I'm anxiously awaiting the release of the Visorphone later this year. All the articles say that PacBell and BellSouth are going to be the carriers through the Handspring website. Problem is, neither of these two phone companies service my area, Northern Virginia. What's a Davey to do?

Most of the articles also say that it will be a GSM phone. If you can find a carrier in NOVA that uses the GSM protocol then you should be able to buy only the Visor Phone from Handspring's Web site, and then get the service from the carrier you found. I on the other hand am out of luck in SWVA, unless the articles are wrong and the phone is as originally assumed CDMA.

Probably GSM

The recent articles about the Visorphone talked about BellSouth and PacificBell as two of the supported networks. These are both GSM networks, so it would appear that the module is GSM.

Doesn't VoiceStream provide GSM access in Virginia?

The closest it looks like VoiceStream gets is Pennsylvania and Maryland/DC. But under their national roaming section, they show come cities in VA and West VA as having digital service, so their MUST be a GSM provider out there somewhere who services your area.
