Thumbs up

My horror story:

My wife dropped her deluxe into the water she was soaking her foot in. It was in the slip case at the time so I guess it floated momentarily (don't try this though). After a few days of drying out and more than a few hard and soft resets the thing is working great. So is the SoundsGood that went in with it. Phew! A really bad day ended up not being so bad after all.

Anybody else beat theirs up?

Mine has fallen off my desk onto carpet more times than I can count. It was thrown across the room to an unprepared receiver...bounced off the body and to the floor.

Probably the worst one was falling off the cab of my S-10 onto an asphalt parking lot. I had it in a Handspring custom leather case (not the best shock absorber), and it landed on the lower right-hand corner. It bent and scratched the corner of the case, and it gouged out a chunk of plastic in the Visor body, about the size of two grains of rice. There was never a more happy day than when I picked it up, pressed the power button, and was met with Launcher III.

My Visor survived fall after fall after fall. Then it didn't survive a fall. The digitizer cracked open and I had to pay $85 for a new one.

My Visor Deluxe survived a couple of falls from waist height onto cement floors. Once it was in an open case (I was using a Rhinoskin at the time), and it came out of the case but the case took most of the impact. No major problems.

The second time it was bare, and hit hard enough to pop out the metal stylus I was using at the time. The case was pretty banged up, but it still worked.

I've had my Prism for about six months, and (knock on wood) so far no drops.

Yeah, I have dropped my visor many many times, but the best was when it fell from ten feet onto a concrete floor. The hard screen cover (the one that comes with it), springboard cover and stylus and batteries all went flying, so I was sure that I was f#cked as was the case, but it had absolutly no damage. It even turned back on. It worked fine for two months until the screen started blinking on and off all the time, and 11 months into my one year warrenty (spelling, I know) handspring sent me a brand new one free overnight mail. I love those guys...

The joys of Titanium!

Mine has been through the worst kind of PDA combat, having been thrown, stepped on by a 340 pound man, dropped from inadvisable heights, kicked, inadvertently slammed into hard sharp objects, and even bitten by my 100 pound German Shepard once, but all of this in my old PalmPilot Rhinoskin Titanium case to which I added some sorbothane so it would better fit my Visor, so never so much as a scratch!

My Edge has survived a nice swim after my Aquapac sprung a leak. It got all in the Microphone and in the buttons and the serial port, everywhere. In horror I pulled it out and Blew in it and let it air out. Good as new! I'm still kinda mad at the Aquapac tho.

I dropped mine on the cement from about waist high and it landed right where the stylus goes in the silo. It shoved the stylus in and it got caught under a lip inside the silo! I tried to take the dang thing apart and I still couldn't get it out. Finaly was able to pry it out thru a hole in the spring board slot.

My mom's BVxD survived a fall down the stars in her purse and in handspring's sport case. luckily it was padded enough. I haven't ever dropped my IVxD or my prism. But I was the one who knocked her purse down the stars.

Visor Abuse

Hmm -

mine has survived at least two batch dye jobs. More disassemble/reassemble cycles than I care to think about, being dropped from desks, two cracked bottom posts (now assembled with 2" tape on the bottom) replacement batteries where the cover *almost* fit perfectly, 1 marker and clear nail polish repainting job, and lots of Bubblet abuse.

Also add to that, attempts at making my own screen protectors, one broken snap cover (eventually I bought one
from gethightech - now I have a purple visor with a black cover - I've got a gothic visor) and lots of well meaning, but hard on the digitizer newbies.

Cheers!

before i got a new one......
well i take really good care of my visor. but as you know nobody is perfect, and this is a reply to worst things ya visor went threw.
well i take my visor clubbing with me all the time. Well this time i drunk a little more than usual. (my friend was on some crazy "ill buy for everyone" thing. well a few random people in the club started break dancing. well being a b-boy back in the day, started break dancing too. well my visor was in my back pocket for the stupid, stupid spur of the drunken moment. well i drank more then was about te leave. butt ended up sitting down talking to the chick. well we left together to goto this after-party her friend was throwing. got there sat down again. then went home in a cab, sitting got home and tried to sober up to get to work in 2 hours, sitting. well when i went to take a shower. OH MY GOD MY VISOR IS IN MY BACK POCKET.
the moral of the story is it survied all the sitting and the break dancing

My backpack in school... things go in and never come out. . Things get smashed into the bottom by heavy books, pencils and pens scratch any smooth surface and all that is between my visor and this harsh environment is a piece of leather covered cardboard (slim leather case). There is not a scratch on the screen, or the visor itself for that matter. It even survived a breaking pen. In the past i've lost the screen of my HP48gx calculator to the crushing weight of my biology book, scratched the hell out of my precious TI 89 (which was the replacement to my HP 48), and even found ants eating remains of a giant cookie that found its way to the bottom.

Mine was dropped by someone holding it as far in the air is possible onto a tile floor in a classroom. Worked just fine afterword--I nearly had a heart attack.

No. I was showing off GayDar and the kid thought it was interesting so he was playing with it. Then he idiotically waved it in the air and dropped it. No malice was involved
