Silly Cigarette Lighter AC Adapters

Isn't it ridiculous that we still need to use automotive AC adapters with the giant cigarette lighter adapter ends in the 21st Century? I'd like to get a new car with a standardized bank of accessory inputs that are no larger than your typical A/V jack, or even reminiscent of a USB connector (that way it could access data through the same connection).

It seems silly now that no one smokes anymore to remain saddled with the same A/C access point that we've been using for forty years.

Is anyone working on this, or do I need to initiate a new IEEE standard all by myself?

wait another 5 years. Don't ask why a car needs this but according to soem random article I read while in social studies class on Avantgo (it was a really boring lecture that daY)

A new stadard is being devled for a 36 volt battery instead of a 12 volt. Next year you'll start to see it on japanese cards, wnd by 05 all new cas will have it. This will allow things like real plugs, more heated seats and other goodies! so I guess jsut be patient.

If you want you can get an DC inverter which is a big heavy box that includes a battery to give AC power.. STill needs to plug intothe fragile DC ports..
