In OE 5 and 6, if you set the "default" identity to the desired one (in your case, "Mark"), that should be the ticket... go to File->Identities->Manage Identities. In the lower half of that screen, set both to the "Mark" identity. The next time you sync with your device, the mail conduit will access the inbox associated with the "Mark" identity.
The only problem with the above is that if Donna has a Handspring device and mail syncs to the same computer, she'll get your inbox contents. Not a good thing.
And if that happens to be the case... that you and the wife want to keep the mail syncs separate, you may be out of luck if you're using the PC version of Outlook Express--- I don't recall seeing any options or notes that suggests that on Outlook Express 5 or 6 on Windows, you can mail sync to a desired OE identity with the supplied mail conduit.
With that said, on the Mac version of Outlook Express, the identity name must match your Palm/Handspring's user name in order for the mail sync to get the desired inbox (e.g., if your OE identify is named "Mark", then your device's name must be named "Mark". If they do not match, you can change the identity name on the Mac OE side (and I would recommend that instead of changing the name on the Handspring side).
Now, since that's how it works on the Mac, maybe... just maybe it might be the same on the PC side. However, if both your Windows Outlook Express and Handspring device names are called "Mark", and Donna gets your mail when she syncs or you don't get your own mail, then you already know what the answer is :-(
I did a Google search on using specific identities and came up goose eggs for the Windows version... sorry 'bout that, mate.
Regarding deleting the Main Identity-- as long as you set a "default" identity to use in that Manage Identities screen before you delete it, there should not be a problem.
