Question

I'm about to go on vacation in the states and I fancy acquiring an eyemodule2 over there. Will it work with my Visor Platinum (bought here in the United Kingdom)?

If so.. would any of the GPS modules work too? Are there any legal implications of leaving the states or bringing it back into the country (I believe this is the reason why we do not have any GPS modules yet).

Thanks all!

Actually, it looks as thought you can buy the EM2 right in the UK - I just found it for sale at http://hs.widget.co.uk/ for 179. It's also possible PalmGear or one of the other online retailers might ship overseas.

Since the Visor doesn't run on AC power (and neither do the modules), I think you'll be fine...

(Man I could use a pint right now...)

I would buy here but....

...since I'm out there (heck even just buying it in the airport duty free) it'll be way more cheaper. I'll go see if the developer's site has anything about "country locking".

I need a bit more than just "think" last thing I want is a lemon. Hang on.. *slaps himself repeatedly* I can pretty much confirm if the EM2 is gonna work with my PDA or not: I'm bringing the blasted thing with me.

*sighs* I'm an imbecile. I suspect the GPS stuff will work but without world maps it'll be a lemon too. Perhaps owners of any of the GPS modules can confirm if this is so.

Cool

Not sure about the GPS modules, but I wouldn't think there are 'country locking' stuff like DVDs. The bad thing about UK is all those neat stuff comes out really slow (oh, and bad weather too), which can be a pain in the a$$. I think the EM2 WOULD work, since its got nothing to do with different countries. Compare to the states, people here get things for ridiculously high prices, take the m505 for instance, it's $450 right? it's gonna sell for 400 here! I don't know how hard it is to bring stuff out in the UK, especially they don't even have to change the language, just the ac adapter! Oh well, I guess there are ways around it...hehe. =)

It'll work - I had a friend ship a Platinum over here to London the day it was available online and I ordered the EM2 the day it was available on PalmGear, and it's been working like a dream. Don't have a GPS, though.

[*oops* Just realised that my Platinum would be a US one, if such a category does exist - I think it does not. I don't see any reason in making modules incompatible across regions.]

Hi IanP:
What part of the States are you heading to? Perhaps I can offer a suggestion or two on where to buy Handspring modules. One thing is for sure....you'll find better selection and considerably lower prices in the Colonies vs the Motherland. Regards.

GPS Compatability

I have the Magellan GPS Companion for the VISOR and I just returned from the UK where I used it extensively without any problems. I was there on business meeting with companies in Wolverhampton and Southampton. Although I did not purchase UK maps for my VISOR, I obtained LAT/LON coordinates for all the motorway/roadway intersections I was interested in from MAPBLAST (www.mapblast.com). The coordinates were extremely accurate and I never missed a turn! The Companion GPS module worked great!!

For the first time in my life I've decided to take a full on beach holiday an head for the sun in Florida. Not sure exactly where I'll be staying though, we're visiting family somewhere between Miami and Fort Lauderdale (possible Hollywood I think!?!).

Any advice on where to purchase would be greatly received, plus what to do with the pictures taken on the eyemodule2 once the onboard memory is full. Is there a workable removable option yet?

Thumbs up

Have a great holiday in Florida. I'm located on an island in South Carolina, near Savannah Georgia, so we're familiar with the beaches, palm trees and golf courses.... a far cry from our digs in Sutton Coldfield, near Birmingham England. As for places to dig up modules in Fla., you will be near Comp USA stores and Staples stores, so I would start there. I believe there are also Best Buy stores, so check them out also.
As for the EyeMod 2 memory issue, I'm afraid I can't comment since I've opted for a separate digital camera with removeable media because of the memory limitation of the EyeMod.
Best of luck on the beaches.

Actually, I don't believe there are any Staples stores in Florida. The first time I saw one (I live in the Miami Beach area) was when I went to California last summer. There are quite a few Office Depot, Office Max, CompUSA (a bit far from the beach, though), Best Buy and Circuit City stores less than a mile west of the beach.
