Newbie question: I'm in dire need of wireless internet connection (mostly for stock quotes retrieval), I'm considering buying a Palm VII, even though I have a Visor already. The Palm VII now has unlimited web access for $45. Is there a springboard module that does the same thing, provide wireless internet capability to our beloved Visors?

Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

DVDGENE:

Unfortunately wireless connectivity for the visor won't be available until about summer. Check this site's "module" section for details.

In the meantime, many digital mobile phones now have "wireless web" access (e.g. Sprint PCS, Bell Atlantic Mobile). If you just want to check stock prices periodically these may prove to be adequate. If you actually need to get the data into your Visor then you would probably have to enter it by hand.

Probably the best solution would be to use a phone with an IR port to use in conjuction with the Visor plus software. The Palm VII seems too restrictive, as do those phones with web access. Plus the Palm VII doesn't have a huge amount of coverage.

A few guys on this board are already doing that with their GSM phones.

I wish there is a SB module that allows me to put in a GSM smart card. In this way, together with a hand free ear plug/mic, my visor will become a cell phone. The only problem may be battery.

Actually, my understanding was that you could use the Palm VII anywhere in the US (perhaps by "huge amount" you mean international?), even back when it was only available in NY.

Still, I have my doubts about the being limited to PQAs. I'd prefer to see Novatell release a Springboard version of their Minstrell wireless modem. It kills!
