*gasp* dropping your visor.

Well it finally happened today. The first drop of the visor. Too bad I won't be having the information that I inputed after the last sync....
I have to take apart the machine and fiddle with it before figuring out what was the problem. The battery leads and the button PCB are combined together, and it has a connector to the assembly board inside the machine. I suppose when I dropped it, it knocked the connection, and when I reseated the connector between the button/battery PCB and the assembly PCB, it started booting up again. The other damage was that the power button was knocked loose but that could be fixed with superglue....
Damn my jacket.... I slipped and knocked the visor out of my hand, and the fact that it didn't boot up scare the crap out of me.

*sigh* I hope you get it all fixed up and all. Accidents do happen. Today, I dropped my visor out of my hand about 2 feet to the carpet floor. My CF Module popped out, but the Visor and all was ok...*phew*

The Visor is just decently put together, and only made out of plastic, so I imagine it can be easily damaged. But that's what you get for such a low price...though I still love my visor!

Well it didn't shatter anything, it's just that the button are like a cell phone. the switches are below the button, and the buttons have some kind of pivot.
All i had to do was to reconnect the connector and superglue the button back to the pivot and it works perfect again.

it was actually those plastic pieces that got broken off... the power switch's button is stemmed by one plastic piece (you'll know when you open it) and that connection has came off. The power button is like this... the button, a small arm, and a ring at the end. The face place has some kind of small stud where the ring wraps around the stud and melted a bit so that it would stay in place. Apparently the drop jarred that connection enough so that it broke off. A bit of super glue held it back in place.

I have a small newsletter for co-workers on PDAs and this is one fo my top 4 lessons:

1. You WILL scratch your screen

2. You WILL crash the system/loose your data

3. You WILL leave the PDA somewhere, and

4. You WILL drop it!

I try and try to teach the newbies to be really prepared for the '4 WILLS' and ready for the '4 probablies'.

To combat the drops, I strongly advocate for a good case, worn as close to 7/24 as possible. This is why I dislike most pouches or super slimline cases. I also advocate for a case that can stay on during syncs, resets, module/card changes, beaming, etc.

I also encourage extended warranties for the same reason, but at the same time, I know that most of these are rather poor investments, especially if you can get your key parts from places like 'www.gethightech.com'.

Actually what probably did save is that I have the original plastic covering on and it hit the bottom, that's why it jarred the button PCB loose.
I'm wanting a good leather case with belt clip but I couldn't find one at a decent price.

Haha, but for those of us who have made modifications to our visors....its a one shot deal, we lose our warranty

As for the case, I'm just using the plastic cover, I'm not gonna shell out anymore cash for a case. This Visor cost $50, so I'm not too worried, I'll see how she fares...

As for my older PDAs, I did invest in very nice cases, I used an EB Slipper on my Clie and loved it. Cases are worth the investment, that is...if your PDA was an investment...
