Question

Okay, so I posted a while back: longtime palm user, switched to Visor, no problems for first three months. Suddenly repeated ONE DAY BATTERY DRAIN.

Posted for advice, finally got a new visor from HS to correct. Guess what? SAME PROBLEM!

Now, I know 10 visor owners quite well. 8 of them have had the sudden battery drain problem or the "fatal error lose all data" problem.

I am really really close to returning the Visor and insisting on a full refund. I want the versitility of the springboard (two way paging! wireless connectivity!) but I am SICK of losing my data and dealing with this crap.

I NEVER had this problem with my palm or any other for that matter.

so:
1) Why is the Visor so frigging buggy? It is an amalgam of pre-existing tech. It should be benefitting from that, not ending up worse than its componants.

2) Has anyone been able to solve the battery drain problem definitively? -SOLVE- mind you, not just one time fix for the crash.

3) Has anyone been able to solve the "fatal error" problem definatively?

thank you to all who reply!

Unhappy

Declana,
I'm sorry for all the trouble you're having. I've had my VDX since November and have not had any problems with rapid battery drain or fatal error. I don't think most Visor users have those problems either. But I'll throw in my 2 cents attempt to help.

Quick question: I didn't notice from your previous posts if you were using brand-new name-brand Alkaline (Duracell or Energizer)or rechargable batteries.

Have you tried this sequence as a test?
- do a hard reset
- install brand-new Energizers
- install *NO* programs
- see how long batteries last
- see if you get fatal errors

Also, think about contacting Handspring for another replacement unit. You might ask if you can be assured of a *new* (not refurbished) unit. Also, ask that they pay the shipping both ways. If the cust svc rep can't authorize that, ask for a supervisor. Be sure they know this is the second replacement.

Good luck, let us know what happens.

I'd also suggest loading applications one by one and attempting to determine if one of them, or, a combination (yick) are sucking batteries. I have some games that suck batteries while they are being played.

Question

(I haven't had any problems with mine either.)
Question: Is the battery draining while just sitting there, uncovered, or are you using a case? (I'm asking because I'm wondering if a case is turning the unit on when not in use...)
