Nokia 8290 SMS Questions

Does anyone know of a third party SMS service that will allow me to send SMS messages to phones on a different network than my own? I'm using voicestream.
I know there are a million out there in foreign countries, anyone know if you're charged for international calls or anything like that when using these services?
Thanks
(sorry this isn't all that visor-related)
Dan

Smile Re: Nokia 8290 SMS Questions

I finally picked up my own 8290 here in Chicago today, on VoiceStream. Only people that are carrying it in the windy city. You should check out the forums on www.howardchui.com You can get alot of info out of this website about nokias. From one of the recent discussions... where alot of SMS Center numbers are tossed around. There is no cost for using these other SMS numbers except that they deduct from your alloted Ping Pong messages. There is also a VoiceStream tech that participates on the forums frequently. Quite helpful.

Uhhh what else have I learned in a short time that applies to a fellow 8290 user? Apprently the VoiceStream startup logo overrides any startup logo you load onto VoiceStream 8290s. Also if your SIM card is one of the 32ks... and you have a certain 8290 firmware revision... the VStream banner logo overrides any operator logos you load onto the phone. This I found as a bit of a dissapointment because one of the biggest reasons i shelled out cash for the 8290 was because of its customizability. Oh well. It's a great phone anyway. Really cool going on the net using Blazer and doing SMS messages on my Prism.

Monkey Messenger ( http://www.primatesystems.com ) might be what you are looking for. I have it but dont use it much. I was able to send messages to someone with verizon service.

And as far as logos. Im able to load my own operator logo but not the startup logo. Which I dont mind much since I see the operator logo more. Plus I can download ringtones and email eyemodule pics from my prism using the phone as well. Its a great phone.

Depending on when you signed up for Voicestream the following SMS centers might work. I signed up in march and they don't work for me, my friends signed up when it used to Be Aerial and they can still use these SMS msg centers.
+18132630025
+12063130004
add these numbers under sms messege centernumber preference under a different profile.

when you send a msg. choose send special, select the profile, send as text, enter number and send. If you get an error then it won't work...
