Well, after putting the taskbar on top, I instantly found why it won't stay there. When I roll my mouse up to the right corner to exit, I usually go all the way into the corner and click. But with the bar there, I can't. . .

Well, I'm using the Mac's ability to select a random image from a folder, so my desktop background is different every time I restart my computer (and I have a folder of over 200 jpg's to pull from). But the rest of the stuff's the same day-to-day. (More or less. the left-hand column of icons gets messed with regularly.)

too big for VC to accept, so here's a link instead.

Hmm..it does vaguely resemble the VC graphic. I got the idea for this wallpaper from a Holiday banner that was hanging in J.C. Penny.

My latest desktop is a collage...it's been growing for over a year now. I think it's sort of plateaued, as I haven't modified it in a few months.

Sorry about the poor quality, the real thing is a 1024x768 2.5Mb Bitmap...this is an 800x600 jpeg

I remembered this thread after getting my Mandrake desktop established. Has a kinda "toilet" thing going for it.

changed: Made one of the pictures I just had developed into my background - same batch I got my avatar from. I suck at photography, but got lucky on a couple pictures.

Here is my desktop. Kinda of minimalistic but I like it. The background is a picture of Eta Carinae, a star in the southern sky that is "ready to blow."

I really think you need to add a few more ShortCuts to your QuickLaunch Bar.

Not to mention having a few more apps running in the SysTray.

What are the specs on your work machine and the AlienWare box you ordered?

I think that's pretty much everything that I use on a regular basis. Now that you mention it, though, I think I need to add JetAdmin to it. The real trick would be to see if anyone could name all the stuff there (there are about 4 apps that I bet _no_one_ could get).

Actually, my home system has a few more, IIRC (which is probably why I make Win98SE cry like a little girl).

What are the specs on your work machine and the AlienWare box you ordered?

Work machine (Dell Precision Workstation 330):
P4/1.8GHz
512MB RAM (Rambus)
IBM 40GB Drive (Win2K Pro)
WD 30GB Drive (SuSE Pro)
Matrox Millennium G450 DualHead
2 17" monitors (Dell M781p)
CD-ROM and CD-RW (I don't remember speeds on either)
SB Live! Value
Whatever the cheapest Harmon Kardon speakers Dell sells are
Built-in NIC (3COM chipset)

Home system (Alienware Grey, well actually black , being ordered Wednesday):
Duron 1.3GHz in an ASUS A7N266-C (which means in a couple years when 2000+ or 2100+ Athlons are a dime a dozen, I can pop one in)
512MB DDR SDRAM (PC2100)
Seagate Barracuda 80GB Drive (WinXP Pro)
VisionTek Xtasy GeForce4 MX440 w/64MB
19" Monitor (NEC FE950+)
Soundblaster Live 5.1
Plextor 40/12/40 CD-RW
Altec Lansing ACS54 (4.1 surround) speakers
USR voice/fax/data modem
Netgear NIC
Plus my existing scanner, printer, and digital camera.

Basically my home machine's task is going to be the 'digital hub' for all of the other stuff in the house. All it needs to be able to do is scan and retrieve pics, do some basic photo editing and printing, be a print server for the other two computers, some audio editing and burning (transferring all of the old vinyl and tapes to CD which can't be found anymore), and do my piddling little website.

In retrospect, they appear to be about even. The new desktop will have to wait until it arrives. Current:

As always, late for the party. Here's the Dell in WinME Mode.

Damn! Where's that attachment?
