Question

Hey, I just noticed on Amazon.com the availability of the Psion 56k Travel Modem. Their is only one review of it for the Handspring Visor on their site. It was a BAD review, stating that the modem isn't compatible with Visor. I was wondering if anyone else has experience with this modem and thier Visor that may be contrary to the reviewer's on Amazon.com. If so, please let me know. I, like all of us, am REALLY anxious to have a wireless modem for my VisorDX. Thanks. Talk to ya later.

According to Travel Modem page, it is compatable with the Visor. I do remember seeing something about an incompatability with the software and thought they had a Visor update available on their site but I couldn't find it.

Thanks for the info. I thought I read on the Amazon.com site that it was compatible with some wireless phones. But, according to the Psion site, it appears that it is only compatible with landline service. Oh well, I guess I'll await the Six Pack from Innogear! I wish they'd hurry up with that! Grin. Thanks again.

This reminds me that it's about time for a new update. Busy busy ...

JimboRN,

In fact, the Psion modem is a good solution, because it does support GSM, and acts as the modem for phones which have no intrinsic data capability, such as the popular Nokia 61xx series phones. (I believe the software modem solutions for these phones don't work on the Visor, but do on the Palm.) However, Psion must think North Americans are backwards, since the GSM capability has been left out of the North American product.

A way directly to wireless is to get yourself a (VERY expensive) data capable phone with an IR port, such as the Nokia 88xx.

I hope that made some sense.
