Cool

Hey Guys. I was just getting through to deleting some apps that I found I didn't really need and noticed how little memory I use on my Visor. Infact it only shows me using 871KB of my 8MB of memory. Makes me wonder why I got a Deluxe . I'm curious. How much memory do you use?

I have 1884K free on my 8mg Visor and I'm going to have to delete something probably a few doc files in order to load a new app I want to try out.

6200K of 7936K. And I really don't need anything more. I also feel having a BVX is a little bit of waste. But I guess just wait until the camera comes out, then all the memory will be precious.

I have 1115K of memory left, and am thinking about either getting the 8MB Springboard, or seeing if I can wait until the summer for the SixPak (and its 8MB of memory).

My biggest memory "hogs" are AvantGo (578K, but that's my choice), HandyShopper2 (147K, including - I think - all of the databases I've created (including the one for tracking the new quarters)), MobileDBLite (363K, with lots of databases from Memoware), Niggle [Scrabble] (228K with the BIG word dictionary), Peanut Reader (784K with their "sampler" and the Charles De Lint novel I bought), SmartDoc (114K), TideTool (147K, with West Coast of US and Canada, & Hawaii), ViewerIII (464K, with all of the photos I put on my Visor), and innumerable essays and books - I have everything from the libretti from some Gilbert & Sullivan operettas to the Roswell Testimony. It's GREAT having everything at my fingertips!

When I loaded my AvantGo Channels & some e-books, I thought, geez, a coupla days old and I bet this baby's getting full (this is my first PDA!), and I've still got 6121k free!!

Time for more books, more games, and more cool apps!!

I have what I thought was quite a bit of stuff on my Deluxe, but I still have 5.4MB free internally and 6.7MB free on the module. Admittedly, my document reader (ISilo Free) and my picture viewer (Ken Shirriff's Tiny Viewer) don't take up much memory themselves, but I have about 550K of docs and pictures, a 460K AvantGo channel, and EPocrates (about another 700K). Lots of room to stretch yet!

AvantGo is my biggest memory user too. It uses 328KB. I used to have more channels, but I found the long wait for info to download to be a hassle, so I limited it to Hollywood.com, Stock Market Stock Tracker, The Weather Channel, and USA Today. When DSL gets here at the end of the month--I think I'll add more because it will be far more expedited when hotsyncing. Nice knowing that with my faster Internet connection--my USB cradle will keepup :P

Man, I wish I was a bit better with my memory I have right now about 500k free. Avantgo alone is taking up about 1.8 megs. Only have a few books like the Hitchhiker's guide stuff and I think database programs seem to take up a bunch. Other than that, it's mainly games I never play in the first place.

2507K free in my VDx, owned for approximately fourteen hours.

Currently loaded with plenty of apps I always wanted to try on my old Palm III but never had the room (Action Names, etc.)

Also plenty of DOC/iSilo files and TealInfo folios.

I have 278K free internaly and 68K free on my springboard. I'm a medical student and I've got my Visor stuffed with as many medical references and resources as i could pack in.

Internal: 1.8MB Free
Module: 3.4MB Free

I've got ebooks and magazines. Lots of 'em! Yeah. Avantgo is the biggest of my non-ebook stuff (~800KB).

Lightbulb

I'm using 1.3MB for AvantGo. Ouch! Oh well, thats what 8MB of system memory is for, and AvantGo is well worth it. I think it's one of the best applications for the Palm Platform.

I have to agree with you there. No other app I know that can update itself on hotsync so much, and have such adaptability as AvantGo

Question

Vinny,
Have you seen Vindigo? I've been testing it out on my Visor for several days now and its really cool! Too bad its only useful if you live in a major metropolitan area such as New York or D.C., but its a lot like AvantGo.

I've got Epocrates on mine too, which I'm growing to like more and more. No longer do I carry around a pocket pharmacopia. I've also got the big memory consumer 5 Minute Clinical Consult, which I also use many times a day. Definitely worth the money.

Using about 800k for Avant go. About 1.6 megs for TealDoc. About 1.3 megs for BDicty (a foreign language dictionary). The rest is games, launch'em, misc junk. All told, using about 6 megs of 8.

Thumbs up

710k left on my BVD.

RamHog sez my worst offenders are:

AvantGo db 1.25meg, plus the .2meg app. I like AvantGo.

Mapopolis Maps: Bernalillo and Sandoval counties at .4meg@ (Fabulous application, btw... www.mapopolis.com !!!)

ePocrates is taking about .9meg total, I think

A mess of ThinkDB databases and Quicksheet spreadsheets

A number of documents /doc readers / doc editors

Pictures for AlbumToGo

A few games and fun things (OmniRemote, ChessGenius, SoftGPS, et. al.)

Assorted utilities and hacks

A fair amount of text in HiNote

...

Good thing the 6pack comes w/ ram- dunno where the email's going to go otherwise.
