I asked the manufacturer and got only a legalese answer..

I was in Greece last year for 5 weeks. It works great as long you will have "tone" service. I could not get it to work with "rotary" service. Even though there is a setting to switch to rotary on the modem software it still does not work. And in Europe depending on where you are you can have tone or rotary or even digital service. You will need to do several things first.
1. Get a local Italian Internet Service provider to give you accesss and a local telephone number. I did so with a Greek provider and got access with a local number for $20.00.
2. You need to figure out how you are going to pay for the call. Since I stayed with relatives, I just plugged in to their lines and thus they paid for the call. Also In Europe you pay for how-ever long you use the line(by the minute)!! and not like it is here in the USA $0.35 per call.
3. You need to get adaptors to be able to plug in just like there are electrical conveters for electrical things (110 to 230). But they are starting to change a lot of lines to american style plugs but not everywhere.
4. You need to get the Gizmo to protect the modem just incase you plug into a digital line. Yes Digital will fry the modem. You can get that and other accesories at Targus. http://www.targus.com/accessories_c...&sku=PA080U sorry I dont know how to make it blue to give you a diect link.
Ok I thjink thats it good luck and have a great time

Wink Thinmodem in Europe

It works fine - I am located in Germany, using the Thinmodem in Poland, Italy and Austria. Everything worked perfectly until I upgraded from VDX to Platinum. You will need CardAccess update 1.4 to fix Platinum bugs.
For your easy access in Europe buy 4" female short plug for 5$ at CardAccess. Nearly every phone (Hotel) have RJ 11 plug in Europe; you can remove this plug from the phone and connect with 4" plug, works really fine.
But take care, in Germany we have 75% digital lines which will freeze the Thinmodem immediately. If you have the "possibility" to book 3-4**** Hotels - they have both (digital and analogue) lines.
Power consumption is no problem - make sure that you have your batteries loaded at least 75%.

Have a good trip,

Dirk Jonas
