Question extra cellphone?

I was interested in getting a voicestream compatible cell phone that I could use with the sim card from my v.phone. I was checking out the phones available on ebay, but some of them have a note re: the fact that some ebay phones might be locked preventing the new buyer from using it. I have been burnt a few times on ebay and am trying to avoid being **rewed again. Does anyone know anything about this? Or... does anyone know where I can get a reasonable second phone to use? Thanks in advance.

www.handspring.com has on the front page the 'extra" phone we VP users need if you have other modules. $69.00

It finally came out. The Kensignton keypad for the VisorPhone.
I can't wait until I'm out of my contract with Verison. Only one year
to go on the 2 year contract. Man, was I stupid! I hope
Handspring still offers the VP this time next year. I'll buy one and
the keypad.

I just picked up an Ericsson cf768 and it works just fine. All you need to do is get a phone that was used on the same cell network you are on now (ie. voicestream).

I switch back and forth all the time. I'm also looking into a Nokia so i can get new ringtones.

I'm all for innovations with modules and such, but havn't we just returned to square one? A stand alone phone.

Most of the time i prefer to bring the handspring w/ visorphone along. But there are times that due to its size or the improved reception of my ericcson that i like to switch. When i'm at the computer show i can hardly get reception with the visorphone, but i can just fine with my ericcson.

Also sometimes my girlfriend wants to play reversi and i want to check my voicemail. Sometimes it's just nice to have the option.

That's a VERY important point to check.

Nokia GSM phones (and most other makes) have a SIM-lock function, which means that they can be locked so that they will only work on the network that sold you the phone originally, regardless of the SIM that's put in there.

They do this because of the subsidy the network gives to you when you buy the phone, and depending on the network you might find that they'll allow you to 'unlock' the phone free, or for a charge, depending on how long you've been subscribed.

And, naturally, there are programs available on the net that, with the appropriate cable, will unlock a phone and allow it to be used on any compatible network.

Nigel.

Smile Thanks all

Thanks for the info everyone. I think I have located a Nokia that I can use and it's very reasonable.
