Question

I just got my Thincomm modem, and I can't get it to work ! I installed the modem, configured using the wizard, and when I try to connect, it says 'initializing', and that's it. One time I actually heard it dialing, but that was it. I can't cancel or anything, and have to pop the module out to reset the Visor... Can anyone help ?

Arrow

I installed and used my Thincom modem to get my AOL Mail and send mail for the time last night. Everything worked perfectly the first time.

But I don't have to configure the Thincom for an ISP to do that, it's already done for me in the AOL Mail program.

Go back and double check your ISP
configurations as per the printed instruction sheet provided. Good luck.

I had no problem with mine. You may want to start at the basics:

1. Disable all Hacks.
2. Do a soft reset on your Visor.
3. If that doesn't work do a warm reset (Hold the up key and hit reset)
4. Double and tripple check your Network settings and phoneline.

5. If you know of anyone else with a Visor, try it on theirs.
6. If none of the above works, I would contact their tech support.

Heyday

Question

Did you set up the browser software, configure the Thincom preferences and configure the Visor for your ISP?

Unhappy

I went over the configuration many times. I then noticed when I inserted the module, it usually generated a 'flat' tone, which sounded like it meant something bad. I called tech support, who advised me to return it for replacement. Bummer, now I have to wait to surf the web with my Visor !

Cool

We received our first Thincomm modem on Friday last week. From the start we had lots of problems with it. It appeared to be okay when it was inserted, but we got lots of errors and only got a single MailPro connection to the ISP.

After that, the modem would not dial, applications complained of various error messages etc...

We sent a note to support and they promptly called us back to find out what was going on. After talking with us, they sent us a replacement modem which arrived yesterday.

Plugging in that modem was like a new lease on life. Everything appears to work just find although there are still some usage issues that need to be dealt with.

We can browse, send/receive email etc... without many problems.

Need more time to play with it, but it appears that after we understand the sticky parts, it will work well for our purose which is remote system admin support.

Unhappy

Just got my thincom. It has no problems connecting to my ISP here in Sweden. I even got the Browse-it to work... kinda. I hit about two sites, including Visorcentral, but evertime I try to open My Yahoo the entire system just freezes. Have to to a soft reset.

The MultiMail seems pretty good as for supporting different standards such as POP and IMAP. However, I cannot get it to download mail from any of my POP accounts. Different errors from each one. On the first it just beeps and says "Err". On the other one it says it is unable to resolve the domain server. Maybe because it is a US server and I am dialing up to an ISP in Sweden? I will reserve judgement until such time as I get it working or my 10 day trial runs out.

But let me tell you, things aren't as smooth with the apps as they make it sound, though the dial up works great!

Angry

Returned my modem over a week ago, still haven't gotten a replacement. Spoke to them today, they did receive my return, just haven't gotten around to sending the replacement... Not thinking too much of their customer service right about now !!

Question

Received mind Wed (8/16) and was worried about the fact that it took 3 insertions for my visor to detect it. Well, the next day it was taking upwards of 10! inserts for my Visor to detect the modem.

Sent email to CardAccess support and received a prompt and courteous reply. Was given an RMA and an address.

Mailed it out this morning and I will update this thread as the adventure progresses!

Thumbs up

Should anyone be interested: I recieved my replacement modem today. They had to of mailed out my replacement the same day they received my original dud.

The treatment I recieved from the folks at CardAccess was OUTSTANDING. No nonsense and TOTAL follow through.

If anyone was 'on the bubble' about purchasing one of the Thincomm modems then I hope my testimony puts you over the edge. It is a great little card (better once the v.90 software upgrade is out) and service I received from the company was outstanding. (I wonder if Xircom, being so large, will be capable of this level of personal service?)

P.S. - NO, I am NOT on Thincomm's payroll!!
