Wink

After much research I ordered my ODX yesterday and am sitting on the edge of my chair (not holding my breath ;^) with antisipation.

Remember HS is a new company offering a new product with ground breaking technology, putting it on the bleeding edge, and with that comes some blood as seen here on the VC forums.

Still even when ignoring the potential of the VDX and the SB it is a better value then the competition. With the added potential the VDX blows the competition out of the water.

Is that a combination of constipation and anticipation? If so, you would be better off getting the IIIx so you wouldn't have to wait 4 weeks. Sounds pretty uncomfortable...

Red face

Just because you purchased the wrong PDA doesn't mean you have to take it out on my spelling.

bou96, you certainly made a wise choice in ordering the VDx instead of the IIIx. For the money, it feels more solid, has double the memory and the potential of SB expansion. Having chosen an orange one, you'll likely only have to wait 2-4 weeks for it to arrive...

Thumbs up

btw, what do you take for constipation? err nevermind...off topic

I really think the Visor is the best choice, but very proportional to Palm's support/shipment/standards

Stick to your guns bou96! I think the Visor is a great product and worth the wait. Besides, you'll get yours in less than four weeks and won't pay more for less like Palm Man did. I'm sure this will get him going. Most guys who are Palm supporters won't change and neither will die hard Visor supporters.

Not true.

I am no longer a Handspring supporter in the truest sense. I still think the Visor is a good product, but if people ask me what to get I'll tell 'em to get a IIIx or Vx (not VII) or something, until I start seeing Visors in stores. (It's kind of moot up here in Canada, but I will not recommend the Visor for my friends in the States either.)

While many have gotten their orders in less than 4 weeks, probably many have not, and there are still the thousands of us who ordered early who still have received nothing. (9 weeks for me.) I would hate to make a friend go through the same headache.

How hard can it be?!?!?

Email because of order problem --> phone call --> correct order --> put at top of list for shipping --> order shipped --> everyone happy.

But this is the way it is:

(Maybe) email because of order problem --> phone call --> nothing done. Repeat forever.

Or in my case:

No problem but get email anyway --> phone call --> nothing done. Repeat many times.

For me, technology is very important and I am willing to spend some time dealing with other issues to get the best technology. However, for most people, customer service is much more important, and right now Handspring's customer service is ineffective.

It's not the wait that bothers me. On this site, earlier on I had been a strong advocate of just waiting patiently. At the time it seemed that those complaining because they had received nothing after 6 weeks were just jumping the gun. However, clearly now it does not seem to be the case. It seems as though those of us who ordered early and were patiently waiting are being penalized for our patience.

As an entrepeneur I'm used to taking risks, as a Marine I'm used to not whining when things go wrong. That said, as a first time PDA owner I'm damned satisfied with my Visor, but I could see how someone with risk aversion would settle for a Palm unit. I know Handspring will get it right and handle the shipping/billing problems. When they start selling at retail joints is the real kicker. If they don't handle that in the 1st quarter of 2000 the BUZZ might slow. I live in a semi-rural part of NY state and people are constantly asking to see my Visor if they see me using it. My only problem in using my unit has been my narky old Compaq keeps losing my com port and I have to reinstall it into the computer every couple of days. My Fujitsu notebook hasn't had a problem once.

Cool

I chose Handspring not becuse they were in the customer service business, but because they have the superior technology.
I expected some gliches from a new company. If in a few months they are still tripping over there feet, then there is something rto worry about.

Yes customer service is important, but there are companies who have been around a lot longer and still have worse customer service.

Geez...I was just kidding. But, since you took me so seriously, if you spelling is indicative of other Visor owners, I'm glad I have a Palm.

Exclamation

I am sure you are still hanging around here in an attempt to feel good about your purchase of the Palm.
As you realize, you may have made a mistake your only recourse is to take jabs where you can.

PS From an Attorney I would expect better justification, many Jaguar owners are pompous but I don't hold it against the car.

Thumbs down

This battering about here is really not needed.

Insults from Palm owners and nasty retorts from Visor owners/buyer serve no useful purpose.

If I was slammed for every typo and spelling error I make I would be bleeding from every pore.

I love Jaguars by the way

Cool

Interesting banter..... To those who do not recommend the Visor - "Too bad it's your chance to stand out". I have had a Palm III, IIIx and now a VDX. I have always purchased to stay on the bleeding edge but then that's what I do for a living (stay on the bleeding edge). If I did not my clients would be disappointed. I have recommend the Visor to friends and clients. I have had little trouble with it and the wait although long was worth it. Handspring has problems but the Visor is not one of them. Why spend more for less. Today, buying a Palm III, IIIx, V, Vx or VII is a bad investment you get less. It is really that simple. My clients expect me to save them money and find them the best solution. The VDX is the best solution today and the price is just a bonus.
