Red face

Ever since Avantgo started having their problems I cant initiate a HotSync.

I get an error message that says:
"unable to initiate HotSync because the serial port is in use by another application"

But my serial port is not in use. I have not changed anything from how it has been set for the last 2 months. Can anyone give me some advice??? Please.

Have you tried a soft reset of your Visor? Try that first and if that doesn't work you can try either a hard reset (you'll lose all of the data so make sure you back it all up using either the backup module (my suggestion) or some backup software such as Backup Buddy (not free) or Backup Bitster (free)) or try uninstalling the desktop software and then reinstalling it.

Hope this helps.

I have also had occasional hotsync problems recently. I know this sounds strange, but when that occurs I reboot my PC and then I'm able to sync. It seems that I can only sync when my computer is "cold"! Also sometimes I can't sync if there is a disk left in the CD-rom drive, even if the disk is not in use. Hope this helps.

Sounds like you're on a mac :-) have you tried restarting? Setting your hotsync prefs to USB only, disabling any other USB software (my wacom graphire stopped me from hot syncing, you've got to have priotites). Try re-installing the Desktop software, or better yet, downloading the new stuff from www.handspring.com. I can't think of anything else right now, but try that first. You may want to re-build your desktop too (command-option when you start up the finder).

I'm having the same problem. All of the sudden, when I try to hotsync I get nothing. I just get an error saying the "connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established." Basically, it's the same message you'd get if you tried to hotsync without putting the Visor in the cradle at all. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for the help.
