If you haven't tried MegaLauncher II, you should check it out. They have just released an updated version (2.3) which maintains the look and feel of the old version, but adds springboard (flash) functionality and is optimized for the Prism and Platinum.

My biggest complaint with version 2.2 was that it didn't retain the categories of applications on the springboard flash module. The new version fixes this problem and seems to work great.

The best thing about MegaLauncher II is the interface, however. It looks awesome and gives your Prism the feel that it was meant to have. The interface is functional and interfaces with their overclocking utility, FastCPU. I've been running my prism at 40 Mhz for quite some time now... no problems yet ;-).

Get it at palmgear.

I totally agree. If you have a color palm device MegaLauncher II is the best. You can archive progams about %50 if you don't use them regularly. Also beaming apps is very easy. And above all the color is awesome.

I tried Megalauncher but was unimpressed. Sure it looks pretty, but I find that Launch'Em 3.0 does a better job of doing what I want a launcher to do - launch, organize and manipulate apps!

Megalauncher wastes too much screen real estate on extraneous stuff. Using small icons and a two-column layout, Launch'Em allows me to see 24 apps per tab while still being able to see all 6 of my tabs without needing a dropdown box, AND still shows me the date&time and free memory AND gives me drag-and-drop operation that is, IMHO, superior to Megalauncher's.

Launch'Em 3.0 also allows me to put an app on more than one tab, so I have them all categorized according to application type PLUS copies of my most-used apps on a "faves" tab. Add customizable colors and the ability to set display preferences independently for each tab, and it's a clear winner in my opinion. Guess that's why I've been a registered user since it first appeared on the scene.

I have been usin Launch 'Em 3.0 for months now, and tried MegaLauncher today. MegaLauncher looks like a Windows app, not too groovy in my opinion. I have to second the motion that Launch'Em is the best, the Tab feature is the best method on a small screen to organize apps, and having each tab a different color lets you know right away which tab you are on, and you can switch the tab location at any time, ect.... I can't say how superior Launch'Em is over anything else I've tried.

The one thing cool about MegaLauncher is the Zip function, but really that's about it. I do like FastCPU by this developer though, overclocking without any hacks is cool with me. I just avoid hacks, period.

I have to disagree on Launchem. I installed it to give it a try a few weeks back and had my first hard reset lose everything crash in months. I'm not sure what is wrong with the application, but I've never had a fatal hard reset with MegaLauncher.

I'd agree on the layout of MegaLauncher... but it does match good functionality with the "windows" look. Note that the windows look is not a good reason to choose a launcher ;-).

Maybe I'll try launchem again, but the crash that happened just after install was not good.

PS - I should note that the "remember category" for flash apps in megalauncher is not working... not sure why (?).

I use a platinum.....

but when I get my next Palm/Visor, I would probably go for the ChormaCast, which basicly is a color version of SilverScreen. SilverScreen's looks jus beat the heck out of all the other launchers on BW devices, and if only it was in color, if would be much popular than it has been. =P

Silverscreen was cool because it made icons look awesome, but as far as added features it really doesn't have any. With Prism & its color icons I don't really think it will be able to add that much to the built-in launcher.

you must be kidding. No added features??? You can drag and drop apps into a catagory, you can find out info about your apps by dragging and dropping, you can beam an app or database with a drag and drop, and now there's a 'recycle bin' so that you can delete apps or databases into a temporary bin.

drag and drop capabilities (so you don't need to use a drop down menu and wait for a list of all your apps and databases to load up), a 'recycle bin' and now with the list view you can use these features with actual database files as well as applications.

AND it beats anything out there on looks.

I'd say there are plenty of added features....

oh ya, the favourites list....set up a list of favourite applications for a quick launch...combine this with PhlegmHack and things get REALLY easy.

then there are the 2 'hotspots' that you can assign to do anything from launch an application to turn off and lock your device.

this is starting to sound like a commercial. just try it...give it a chance (i'm sure you've tried it but did you TRY it?)

i am not affiliated with Pocket Sensei in any way, however, i think Silverscreen has improved my visor more than anything else on it right now.

I'll have to 3rd the statement that LaunchEm 3 is the best. I tried MegaLauncher II after this post started and wasn't impressed. I like the fact that you can totally customize the look and feel of LaunchEm -- which you really can't with MegaLauncher.

As to handling flash / Springboard cards -- i didn't see any difference. Both launchers, once I unplug my memory card and plug in my Thinmodem or Eyemodule2 (and then plug the memory card back in) shows the apps moving to "unfiled". Not very usable and a problem on both.

Only, since I started using MegaLauncher I now have 3 Eyemodule apps on my system. I'm removing MegaLauncher after I post this reply.

Yet another vote for LaunchEm 3. The last beta expired on Jan. 15, but I left the country shortly before that, and they hadn't posted an update. I was forced to use Mega Launcher as my alternative. While it works as advertised, I found the myriad of menus and icons confusing, found it took multiple taps to accomplish what I could with one in LaunchEm, and didn't offer much more in useful functionality. LaunchEm looks plainer, but I think that represents elegance in simplicity.

I was a long time Launcher III user, and had flirted with MegaLauncher for a couple of months, but as of early this week, I have switched completely to MegaLauncher.

A couple of days ago, they (MegaSoft) released v 2.3 with a revised UI and a bunch of new features. Along with compression of seldom-used databases (saves a lot of space), it also has support for apps on the HS flash module. It can also have up to five icons per line for less scrolling, and integrated support for their overclocking app - FastCPU.

It has drag and drop support for beaming, deleting, moving files between tabs, etc. It has a backup mode that lets you tag apps and databases for backup during HotSync.

Best of all it adds three different quick-launch lists that cut down on the taps that I use to launch apps. The first is a favorites list. Whatever you want to be in it. The other two are maintained automatically. the first is a MRU (most recently used) list. The second list is a MOU (most often used) list.

Finally, is you are concerned about the amount of screen real estate that it uses, there is a little icon to click that hides most of the UI. It's still there if you drag something to the bottom of the screen all of the components pop up like the task bar in Windows or OSX.

All-in-all a very complete app and very stable. It hasn't had a single glitch or problem in the last two or three releases.

I've used Lanch'em since my Palm Pro days (whatever it was called then). I tried MegaLauncher when I first got my Prism becasue I didn't about the 3.0 beta. Also have tried silverscreen. Have to say that nothing beats the tabbed interface.
