I'm going to Europe for two months this summer, and I'm thinking of getting a beltclip case like the Rhodiana or the Shocksuit. What I'm concerned about is the security of the belt clip, and whether or not the unit could be slipped off without me knowing. I know that the unit itself clips in and a button must be depressed to release it from the beltclip, but I'm concerned about the actual clip coming off my belt. Do the clips slide onto the belt or is the belt looped through the clip? Also, if clipped on, how easily does it come off? Any insight from any angle would be appreciated.

The Palm belt case has a huge honking metal clip that is spring-loaded and sewn into the leather, and is simply not coming loose unless you tell it to.

It fits the visor very nicely, if you leave the clip-cover off the unit.

I've been using the Palm III beltclip myself for about a month now. It's very nice, other than the fact that the webbing that attaches the whole belt clip mechanism seems to be a little defective. Then again I rarely take it off my belt, so it's subject to a lot of torque stress. Bottom line is that with this thing and my new Nokia i1000 phone, I've got only 2 portable devices to carry around on my belt, and I'm totally wired.......

I believe you're refering to the separate belt clips like used on cell phones. I use one on a home-made holster and another for my cell phone.

The belt clip is spring loaded and completely encloses the belt in a rectangular opening. It won't slip off, you have to squeeze it to remove.

Like anything though, if your attention is on something else someone could potentially "pick pocket" your PDA from these devices. Out of sight (under a jacket) or in a pocket would be better prevention.

Would it be possible to put a lanyard through the straps on the back of the case and attach it to my belt, so that if somebody does try to swipe it, it is connected to me that way too?

An alternative I've come to love:

I found a cheap coat at Target ($20.00) that's sort of a cross between an overcoat and an Army fatigue top (part of the Cherokee collection -- don't laugh). It has large pockets, so I can put the phone in one and the Visor in another. The gadgets remain unseen, which cuts down on the geek factor a hundredfold. And I still have room for a couple of Springboards or a Stowaway keyboard. The weather's pretty dreary in Europe, so you won't look out of place with an overcoat or trenchcoat.
