I've got both the Geode and the Magellan GPS companion (don't ask why I have both - I don't have a good explanation), and with the coming of spring want to take the Visor/GPS combo out on the trail. Do a little side-by-side comparison of the two, and get some exercise while I'm at it.

Here's my question - I obviously don't want my precious Visor to get ruined by moisture. So, I need a work-thru, water-proof case. Geodiscovery has a couple of neat looking belt cases, but they do not appear to be waterproof.

The only one I've seen that fits the bill is the AquaPac line of cases. Does anyone have one of these? I seem to vaguely recall VC did a review of one ages ago, but can't find it on the site.

Also, does anyone have a different suggestion? Thanks.

just in case...

Here's the review you were probably looking for:

The idea mentioned here actually worked in a pinch:

Hope I was of some assistance...

You were indeed. Does the Condom idea actually work?

Snowboarding on the edge of wetness...

Yes, but only in a minimalist sense. We were out near Tahoe snowboarding and occasionally needed to access the GPS in order to get our bearings as we were usually riding off piste. The snow in the Sierras can get quite thick and I just needed something that would provide moisture protection and write-through capabilities (as my aquapac so aptly provides).

The Lifestyles Extra-Sensitive (or do they call it the Ultra I forget) seemed to do the trick. I had to wash it with a little warm water and soap to clear it of the lubricant first. I carry condoms on in-country jaunts as a survival tool as well, they make great water containers in an emergency, tourniquets and the list goes on.

One added bonus: You can sync with it on (but I prefer not to)...

I am using the clear vinyl pencil pouches that go into 3 ring binders. They have a zipper on the side and are thin enough to use the buttons and screen. I'd say they are pretty good at keeping dirt and water out but I wouldn't want to have it in pouring rain for very long. I really just needed some way to strap this thing to my leg while flying. It has to also protect against light rain and snow.

Best part is they are $0.88 each.

Thanks guys - both great suggestions.

zer0phase - it sounds like you actually have the Aquapac - how do you like it?

I was leaning towards buying an AquaPak, but I think I'll wait. GeoDiscovery is supposed to come out with a work-thru waterproof case, and I want to see what it looks like before buying something pricey. Either the condom or the pencil case should work for the short term.

aquapac been berry berry good to me.

I really like my Aquapac PDA Wallet. It does an excellent job of protecting the Prism during simple kitchen use and activities in extreme weather conditions (it just doesn't accommodate the oversized mods). The slight inconvenience of inserting and extracting the PDA far outweighs the potential damage caused by liquids and other potentially hazardous materials. I am considering picking up the large GPS case but I also have something more custom order in mind. Though now I'm thinking of giving olendorfs idea a try first.

Another thread mentioned the Voyager Dry Flex Case (for Cell phones) worked well for the visor/magellan combo. They sell it at REI.com. Check out the thread - it had some pictures, looked promising too.

Someone beat me to the punch! Just picked one up today from REI in fact. Looks real good and cost less than 20 bucks.

They have a web site:
http://www.voyageur-gear.com/produc...enu=Dry+Storage
Look for the Cell Phone/GPS Case as opposed to the Cell Phone/Pager Case which is too small for the Visor & GPS.

All in all its a tight fit but I like it a lot.

I got a Voyager too over the weekend - seems to work well. I used it on a short hike this weekend during some drizzle.

It takes a while to "squeeze" a GPS/Prism combo out of the case (it's a very tight fit), but otherwise it's a nice case. It's padded on the back and sides, and I feel comfortable that if I dropped the case - and it landed right (see below) that it would provide good protection.

The clear vinyl front is easy to work through. The only two serious drawbacks to the case IMO is a lack of real screen protection - in the event of a shock direct on the the screen, the vinyl won't provide any real protection.

That said, I'm happy with it, and it will at least tide me over until Geodiscovery comes out with their "work through" case, which is rumored to be pretty good.
