www.iscomplete.com also has a program called IrLink that will allow Ir transfer/sync. It is still in beta.

Question

i tried to install, it says
For IrLink to run, you must load the LicenseMgr, i try loading it after i unzipped Irlink12, it says a required .dll is missing..

You will need IrLink v1.5 to work with Visor. IrLink v1.2 is for Palm devices. Please drop a email to [email protected] to get the beta version if you are still interesting in it.

Question

Thanks very much to IS/Complete for sending the beta software to me so promptly... I installed it this AM but didn't get a chance to try it out until later in the morning after I'd already gotten to work...

To use IRDA 1.0, the software wants me to install the IR Enhanced software from 3Com... So, this evening, I did...

The IR Enhanced software causes the Visor to hang after the soft reboot, requiring me to hard reboot it...

The HP SIR isn't supported...

Anyone have any ideas as to getting this thing working? I'd LOVE to save $10.00 on the USB sync cable as well as save some room in my laptop bag...

Chris

---Update---
Ack... I must have gotten confused as to which folder I'd saved the new beta to... 1.5b2 works like a champ... Disregard all of the above and expect my $$$ in the mail for the product when it becomes availabe

I have successfully been able to hotsync the visor to the palm desktop software on my laptop through the IR port. I received the IRLink 1.5 Beta on Monday, loaded it all up on Tuesday and it works OK. I've been accustomed to syncing with Yahoo Calendar using TrueSync; but I haven't been able to do that through the IR port. Only the palm desktop app will sync on my setup. I'm using a NEC 120LT laptop (with the IR port on the left....which means I have to turn the visor upside down to sync....)

Yep, you can install apps onto the visor via the IR Port Did three of them the last time I synched to the Laptop... Don't expect the blazingly fast speed of the USB Cradle tho...

I've received and extracted the IrLink software for Visor from iscompete.com. I've also gotten the IREnahancement bit from 3Com.

BUT, I don't have USB and I'm waiting for my serial cradle. How do I get the software from my laptop to the VIsor so that I can use the IR port? Does this mean that I have to wait for my cradle?

Well, yes... unless you can talk a friend into installing it on their Palm (with IR port) or Visor so they can beam the applications to you or can use a USB enabled computer...

Question

I've jumped on the Visor bandwagon. I ordered a GVD on 12/02/99. Hopefully I'll get it by 01/02/00. Anyway... I'm a big fan of IR technology. I have a Toshiba Libretto 100CT (mini-notebook) that I use along with a docking station (a.k.a. Enhanced Port Replicator) as my main PC. When I'm on the road I use IR for printing, scanning, and file transfer. The Libretto uses a PCI based IR interface. Will the software mentioned earlier in this thread work with the Visor and my Libretto to sync and add software using IR communication?

If you don't have USB and can't find anyone to beam IrLink.prc and SerIRCommLib.prc to your Visor, you may be able to beam those apps to yourself by installing QuickBeam from http://www.countersys.com (free if under 2 users license).

It works for 98 and 95. Once IrLink and SerIRCommLib.prc on your Visor, you will able to enjoy the IR HotSync like cradle HotSync. The speed of IR HotSync is in between USB and Serial Cradle.

For Librerto 100 to work. you will need Win98. If you have Win95, you will need to download irpci95.exe from toshiba's web site. If you have NT, you will need QuickBeam suite for NT from www.extendedsys.com to get IrDA support on NT.

John

Thanks to JohnH and kudos to the folks at IS/Complete. IrLink beta is working very well for me. Space constraints make it tight to leave the cradle attached to my laptop, so the IR port transfer is great. Plus, I don't necessarily need to travel w/ the cradle either, although it's probably not a bad idea to have it along, just in case.

John...

Thanx so much for your prompt reply! I'm running Win98 SE on my Libretto 100CT. The Enhanced Port Replicator has one USB port, so the USB cradle will work fine when the Libretto is docked. I'm so glad I'll be able to use IR communication to sync Outlook 2000. The Visor will be my first PDA.

Thanx again! Now... the agonizing wait for my for Visor.

Is there any software that allows you to IR-sync in Win2K??

I haven't tested USB syncing yet (since I have not received my Visor yet...) but am pretty sure it's not gonna work witout win2000 drivers...

So I'm hoping there is a program that allows me to do it through IR so I can sync at work too...

Unfortunately, IR sync'ing under Win2K is not a viable solution at this time. HotSync requires that a virtual serial port be assigned to the IR port. While this is possible under Win98 and NT 4.0 (using 3rd party software), it is not under Win2K. Below is a link from MS explaining why it won't work.

Allright. I am confused. I installed IRlink 1.5 beta. The software works fine on my Visor, but how do I get my computer to communicate properly? My computer is toatlly IR enabled and the "test" function on the IR software "see" the computer, but everytime I hold the visor up to the computer, I get an IR error, and a beam window that is waiting for something.
Furthermore, It doesn't look like hotsync lists my IR port as an option for beaming.

Has anyone had similar problems? Any fixes out there?
