Exclamation

Hello all!

I got a Visor Solo today for a relative who is graduating from college as a gift. Comparing the Solo to my Deluxe, the /i version information reports "Palm OStm Software V. 3.1H2" My trusty old Deluxe reports "Palm OStm Software v. 3.1" (no "H2").

So, maybe there is an update to newer Visors, or Handspring just changed the text string in the OS. Anyone have the skinny?

I got my Visor Deluxe in April, and mine dosn't have "H2" in it's version. On the back, I can see though the clear case that's it has a rev. date of 3-6-00.

Yes, there are two revisions, A and B. I don't think that this has anything to do with the software, but I may be wrong. The difference that can easily be noticed is the palm logo on the battery cover on one revision while its not there on the second revision.

There was a thread a few months ago (try searching for it) that indicated the "Rev A" you see in the plastic is the revision of the plastic mold used to make the case. I've found three A's, most easily spotted on an ice deluxe: Above the battery cover on the right side, underneath the sticker on the battery cover, and if you pop off the springboard cover, in the lower left corner.

I don't think "3-6-00" is a date. Mine says "03-0006-00 REV" on the circuit board that I can read through the back. Although my current ice deluxe is a replacement, I think my previous one had the same number there. I got my original ice deluxe in Oct or Nov of 1999. (One of the first)

Addition: the old thread is at http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...TML/001744.html persuant to the revision markings on the plastic. These should have no bearing on the ROM/OS versions, IMO. (But I could be wrong)

I think what AndrewB is talking about is what you see when you tap on "Info" in the pull down menu of your main screen

About the "3.1H2" - you're right, AndrewB, Handspring seems to have updated the OS in the newer Visors. I bought a couple for my friend and notice that theirs too have the new "3,1H2" tagged on the end of the PalmOS info.

I dunno whether Handspring has updated much, but as far as I can tell, here's what's new:

1) Handspring has locked apps like CityTime so that it cannot be beamed - previously, with apps like Beamware, you could beam CityTime to somebody else. Not anymore. Handspring has locked all the built-in apps now from being beamed.

2) If I'm not wrong, the default Memos on support and how to maximise the use of your Visor has been updated.

Cool

I just have the ol' Palm OS version 3.1 on my Blue VDX. It was purchased in October, 1999.

Although I did notice that several applications have an "H" added to the version number, such as, "Datebook+ v3.0H", for example. One would assume that they took the Palm version 3.0 and modified it slightly, so the "H" signifies the Handspring version.

I must admit, I have been wondering if this OS update helps with the AvantGo greyscale issue that people were complaining about.. but noone has said anything?
