Cool Another Possible Bust for Handspring or jus Precaution

I am going to hope that Handspring is playing "safe" by releasing these units and that they will try to hit Christmas with some really new units. Why?:

a) The changes presented to the units are really minor adjustments to the base (existent ) models. The 16MB and Rechargeable batteries are nothing exceptional.

b) When I look at this new release I see it as Handspring wants to try to provide some news to the media and general public.

c) With Pocket PC's coming in hard with Pocket PC 2002 system and units that basically :

* Have a much simpler OS now and nice, see websites for reviews.
* Units that are providing integrated wireless systems ( i.e new IPAQ).
* Added storage formats , Toshiba Genio.

d) Other Palm OS have release nice color units that even in the higher $$ range are more buck for the money.

e) I simply cannot believe that Handspring will not amaze us with something during christmas time when the market "picks up" commercially.

Can you point to a specific link? I'd like to read about this.

Angry I totally agree.

I personally am disapointed about what was released. Basically a snazzier version of the Platinum and Deluxe. IMHO the colors were the biggest change. And I don't even like these new colors enough. Handspring needs to put out a better product, or when it comes time for me to retire my Platinum, I'll be looking at Palm or Sony.

It seems as if Microsoft is trying to sell gradients, 3-D, and background images as an 'improved interface'.

Microsoft's ClearType technology, which in a very basically explained manner triples the vertical resolution of the handheld display, is now also being used throughout the entire system to improve readability.

Ugh. Microsoft, I'd have a LOT more respect for you if you'd stop using misleading descriptions of your 'technologies'. Cleartype = anitaliased type...don't give me this 'tripling resolution' crap.

Oh look...you can use MS's own IM and Email built in! Again, Ugh. Microsoft doesn't want you to use a better OS. It wants you to use ITS OS...and ITS software. I wish MS wouldn't take that attitude all of the time. I respect their talents as software developers. I despise their commitment towards creating a one OS society.

All that said, there are a few nice features...something the Palm OS community needs to address. BeOS, where are you?!

i beg to differ, no other handheld has had 16mb of INTERNAL RAM (except that upgrade guy). for people who dont want color (or dont like the price) it is one of the top of the line handhelds.

NO memory expansion formats beats added Internal RAM for speed and simplicity of use. This is significant for heavy users.

LOOK PEOPLE WE NEED TO STEP BACK AND SEE THIS AS IT IS. WHAT HANDSPRING HAS DONE IS NOT COME OUT WITH A "NEW" MODEL - BUT REFINED THE EXISTING THE CURRENT LINE. MANY, MANY COMPANIES DO THIS. WE GET SOO WRAPPED UP IN THINKING THE NEXT THING THAT COMES OUT HAS TO BE INFINITELY BETTER. WHY DO YOU THINK HANDSPRING HAS BEEN LOW KEY. THEY ARE NOT LOOKING AT IT AS THE NEXT GENERATION, JUST A SMALL REFINEMENT TO KEEP THE EXISTING LINE FRESH.
