Question

I'm currently using a Prism as my PDA of choice. Unfortunately, I'm on the road most of the day and I take a beating in the battery life department (I don't get much of a chance to charge or HotSync it). I love my Prism but I'm thinking about going to a Platinum (in graphite), so I'm basically getting the same machine minus color and better battery life. I've seemed to start amassing Springboards that I actually use (CF Adapter, Geode, backup etc) and I'm locked into a Visor wether I like it or not.

I don't picture A Platinum as a downgrade, it's more like an even swap for battery life. Do any Prism owners have the same problem? What would you do?

Question

Isn't there a mobile charging kit?

I use the Emergency Charger from www.talestuff.com

This should off-set any worries about batteries with your Prism.

After having color, I would have a hard time going back to a greyscale system.

chrging issues

Why spent the money?

Buy the travel charger from tailite - get the car charger 7 the AA battery charger, And get the travel charger from handspring.

For less than $100, all your charging situations are covered - car charger to charge in your car while driving, AA battery charger for emergency charges and the travel charger to use in your hotel room.

put that investment into the prism and it should take you into next year when the new high res/new processor devices come out.

If you go against what everyone else is saying , and want to sell your Prism I'd be interested in it!

umm. NO! If anythinhg, I would downgrade to the Edge, but sence yo uuse modules often, that wouldn't be good. The Plat is nice, btu the Prism is SO MUCH NICER!. Get a mobile charging kit, and you'll be happy!

I will build you an adaptor to plug into the bottom of your Prism. All you have to do is buy the car plug (Radio Shack, etc.) to charge in the car. You can take the AC adaptor that came with the Prism and plug it in while in a hotel. I will charge $15 for the adaptor + $3 shipping to the continental US. I built one for mine and it works great.

Smile You got a deal!

That sounds great! Just email me your info ([email protected]) so I know how to pay you. Also what cigarette lighter charger would I use?

BTW, thanks for the suggestions. I love my Prism and I'm glad I have other options.

Question hamiltondj

What details do you have on these faster proc/high res units for next year? Would this be above and beyond the specs on the new Sony CLIE?

Get one that puts out 6V with as high of a current output as you can find. The max the Prism takes to charge is 1.5A. It will be hard to find one that does that, but anything over 600mA should do. You can find them at Wal-Mart and some electronics stores. I accept paypal ([email protected] is the account) or money order. E-mail me how you want to pay and as soon as payment is received, I'll ship.

I went from Prism back to the Platinum. It wasn't hard to go back either. Something about the greyscale screen...I actually enjoy it. If color isn't a necessity then I think the transition won't be hard at all for you.

Talking greyscale

Vapor action -

I thought I was the only one!! Color is of course a million times better for games, but the text-only apps look better to me with the VP's greyscale screen.

greyscale!

vapor action and dshorter,

And, me too. I love the monochrome screen, likely because I imagine my VDX as a writing tablet and when I think of writing, I think of...pencil on paper. For me, a Palm is a monochrome device that takes AAAs which last three weeks. I have a graphite VDX and really want the graphite VPL. Repeating a previous poster's query: anyone seen or heard of a graphite VPL in stores (best buy espec.)
