Question

I find this strange... Orignaly my serial cradle would sync (though unreliably) until it finally gave up the ghost. So, I went to the USB cradle (Had to get devel Linux kernel) and everything is ok. Now, I was assuming that the serial cradle had simply failed (Had seen supporting posts, and I verified the serial port works) so I contacted Handspring for a replacement. Well, deal is that now I have the replacement and the Visor will still not sync over serial.

Could there be something wacky with the visor that would not allow it to sync over serial but will over USB?

Maybe this is a dumb question, but... when using the serial cradle, is the HotSync manager setup for the serial port? If so, are the settings correct?

Yeah, I've made sure that all software was switched to the standard serial port again (tried both Linux and Win98) with no luck. I am going to attempt a sync from a known working serial configuration (a friends visor cradle) before calling HS techsupport. I just have a difficult time considering that the Visor itself could have a defect that will prevent one type of sync but not another.

Unhappy

Well, it seems that my Visor deluxe is at fault . My IDX would not sync in a known working configuration. Guess it is time to give handspring a call.

Lightbulb

For those wondering it is really fun to talk to your self in puplic places, I suggest everyone try it sometime!

Well, the new serial cradle DOES work. It seems that "LinkUSB" was at fault. I had to reinstall my Visor piece by piece to find out.
(First discovered that the cradle did work after a warm reset (up key and reset button))
