HELP!!!!
I accidentally drop my VDX and the face plate is now crack. I've called Handspring for a replacement but, since my VDX is more than a year old, they wanted to charge me $80 to replace the unit. They would send me a replacement new or refurb unit and I would send my broken unit back. All I want is a simple faceplate instead of going through this trouble. Does anyone know how to obtain one without going through Handspring's trouble?

I think they'd charge you even if it wasn't a year old. I dropped my visor billions of times (hence the signature) and the digitizer finally cracked. The made me pay $80, but they sent the new one overnight.

Not sure where you can get a new one without going through HS. I am guessing that even if you do find it, it will probably be close to the $80.00. I would probably pay the $80.00 and get the new unit.

I will say this, my boss purchased a Prism from Best Buy and dropped it down a stairwell, called HS and they sent him a replacement for free.

Good luck.

Thumbs up Insurance

If you insure your PDA (and Novatel Modem) with PDALostOrStolen.com, you will get a replacement with a deductible of $50.
The Visors are not made to endure drop, thus insure them might be a good idea.

Let me revise my last statement. I was assuming you were talking about the actual screen. If you are talking about the plastic faceplate that goes around the screen, that is a different matter entirely. The only replacement for this that I have seen is from GoStyle. They make the Wood Grain Faceplate kits. The only other option is to hit all the message boards and see if someone has changed to the woodgrain faceplate and would be willing to sell their original. Of course, this could take some time.

Depending on the damage I would either upgrade to a new unit, or pay the $80.00. Good luck.

Last time I checked those GoStyle things weren't actual faceplate replacements. They were a stick on piece that went over the existing faceplate.

check Ebay

I have seen several "broken" (usually the screen is cracked) visors for sale on Ebay, usually relatively cheap. You might give that a try.

I am one of the few people that own a GoStyle Faceplate and, Yes, It is a wooden sticker. Though If the front of the Visor is cracked then It would hold it together and hide the crack pretty well.

Within 3 hours of getting my VDX it fell off my desk and cracked the case / screen. Handspring sent me a new one for free

Lightbulb Try gethightech.com

You can get new digitizers from http://www.gethightech.com/ for $45-$55. They are Palm digitizers buy claim that they will work on the Visor. The silkscreened icons will be Palm icons though. Not many people seem to know this, but the digitizer and screen are two separate pieces of glass. If you just crack the digitizer you only have to replace that, not the entire LCD screen. If the LCD screen breaks, then you replace the whole screen assembly, including the digitizer.

I just poked around on www.gethightech.com, and they have the Visor Plastics. However it is for $35. See: http://www.gethightech.com/generic.jhtml?pid=57.
