prism cracked!

Ok, my prism has started acting funny when trying to charge and sync. It is not making the connection on the cradle. I examined it and found a crack in the case right above the on/off button. I think there is some sort of electrical short going on because of the case not being tight anymore? I used scotch tape to make the case snugger in the cracked area and have been able to sync it the last two days. But the light does not flicker like it is charging- it stays on. The battery meter registers charged after just a minute or two. I would like to think I discovered a way to do really quick charges, but I must be a realist and believe it is not really charging. When I take it off the cradle it registers as fully charged for a short time then shows about 1/3 of the battery power gone.

So, any ideas? I imagine it will be more expensive to send in to Handspring for repairs than buying a new one.... Or does any other company out there do new outer cases or repairs? Any ideas from anyone?
