Bad Backlight

Purchased a Edge due to failure of Palm Vx while waiting on M505 and it had a bad backlight or should I say no backlight. Returned to CompUSA and the replacement was bad as well. Unit was returned for credit will use laptop with pen and paper and hope my M505 arrives sooner than later.

Angry Faulty Digitizers

I have gone through *THREE* HS Edges in the last month. All with the digitizer problem. American return policies have been nice, but I'm on my fourth. You can read *EVERYTHING* between me and handspring at this website.

This was my first PDA purchase ever. I've been through 2 visor edges, and i'm on my 3rd. All systems are green so far. The first and second units had defective backlights. Other than that, I love the edge. Customer service has been annoying but effective. They put me though a soft, then hard reset the first time around, and then shipped me a new unit.

The saga continues..........

Talking

My Edge is back up and running without a hitch. I did a hard reset after letting my battery run all the way down. It was kind of funny because I had been reading all of the posts by other Edge users and thought it wouldn't happen to me. So I can feel your frustration because I did not want to have to return my red edge and have to wait for another one. I'm going to give it 2 more weeks if there are no more problems I will send it in for the 16 meg upgrade.

To GV in Pacifica:

Oh! There's a capacity upgrade available? Cool. I'll check out the handspring website.

Upgrade

Jamma, sorry I was referring to an upgrade in another thread, the upgrade does void the Handspring warranty. If you do a search in discussion there are several threads regarding this topic. If all goes well I will be sending mine to www.palmpilotupgrade.com in a couple of weeks.

GV in Pacifica, thanks for the heads-up on the upgrade process! I wasn't even aware that was an option. I'll probably upgrade myself. Do you know anyone who has used this service? If so, what did they have to say about it?

Smile

We're kind of getting off topic for this thread if you do a search for upgrading to 16 mb or try here http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...?threadid=14214
that should get you started. I don't know anyone personally, who has upgraded but I'll let you know when I do, or if you beat me to it you can let me know.

Looks like I spoke too soon. My edge's digitizer just crapped out. Thank God I got it at OfficeMax here in town. I'd be irritated (more than I am now) if I had to wait a couple of days to get a replacement. I would suggest that everyone that has had a problem edge let handspring know on their feedback form. Click here. The feedback link is the bottom option in the far right column. I don't think I have to mention to keep the tone courteous because it's so obvious that the people reading these responses had nothing to do with making the damn things, but they have everything to do with whether or not your response makes it past them to do any good.

And Handspring's Customer Support surprises me again. No wonder I stick with these guys. I just got an email in response to the feedback I left.

worked. I'm taking it back tomorrow in exchange. I will continue to do
so until I get one that doesn't crap out after 1 week.

I just got this after getting the display model at OfficeMax. At least I know it's been working fine for a month (not to mention there's something to be said for getting the visor you originally fell in love with). I'm well impressed.

oog...considering that I just placed my order for one of these things, I must admit some apprehension. Has anyone tried to locate a common denominator to the defective Edges? I'm definitely curious now that I've a vested interest in discovering if there is a systematic issue with the Edges. Useful bits of information would probably be: 1) Where did you purchase your Edge? 2) Where was your Edge assembled (embossed on the inside by the Edge connector)? 3) Is there a determinable date of manufacture?

1. OfficeMax
2. Mexico
3. . 6 gives a date of 3/2/01, 2:19pm (whether this is a good indication of manufacturing date I don't know)
(added)
4. Been working well for 3 weeks.

Unfortunately, I don't have the information from my bad one (obviously the earlier responders in this thread won't have theirs, either).

Well, they'd at least know 1), so that might suggest whether there's even a remote correlation between certain resellers.

True. Info for my old one

2. Malaysia?
3. No clue
4. One week (almost on the dot) before it petered out.

Problem Edge, No problem, customer service

Yesterday I received my Edge and shipped my Prism off to its new owner. By the afternoon, my Edge wouldn't turn on. After contacting tech support (in New York) at Handspring, and doing a hard reset, I had a "fatal error" message. Tech support said that replacements were shipping out in 7 to 10 working days. I said that that was unacceptable and I called customer service in Utah. They shipped my replacement immediately and I received it today. Two hours into it and no problems, knock on wood. Moral of the story. Handspring hires nicer people in Utah than in New York. I still love the Edge over my Prism even though I gave up the color. The size and weight, along with the cover, are great.
