So what's the advantage of the TREO 90?

So what are the advantages of the TREO 90? It's small, ok. It doesn't have grafitti, it doesn't have a springboard slot, and the screen looks smaller than the Prism. So what's so great about it?

It's a matter of personal preference. Some folks like the small size and the keyboard, as well as the ability to look up important info without having to remove the cover, and others appreciate the SD/MMC expansion, which they might already have.
Then again, others don't like it's inabilty to sync with OS X

It's got only 12-bit color screen and at around 2.5 inches it IS smaller than the Prism's - or any other Visor for that matter......

I agree there's no real advantage whatsoever with the Treo 90. It's like Handspring toned down all their products beyond boringness and priced it at the same price as a Prism.

Size & weight isn't really an issue. Look at your Visor (any model). With some nip and tuck we can bring the Visor width down to about 2.6 (down from 2.8) inches while still maintaining the screen size if you can squeeze the area in between the wasted space on the screen and sides. Then, we can also save some space by bringing the length of the Visor down to about 4.4 inches (from 4.8).

If we keep the Springboard adapter, then the the depth remains the same (it could be done in such a way that the sprignboard is inserted at a slight tilted angle so without the module, it'll look thinner. Leave the adapter off like with the Edge then we'd get one really compact PDA with 3 inch color screen.

As for weight, I got a Cellphone from Kyocera that's about half the width of the Visor, almost same depth & length and yet weigh at a remarkable 75 grams (2.6 ounces - yay to Japanese technology). I bet that with some research, the 3-inch screen Visor can weigh as little as a new Treo 90 or just slightly more.

Add hi-res to go head-to-head against the Sonys, of course add some color (at this point, if they only add 12-bit, i wouldn't mind at all), a software graffiti area, 16MB or more, 33MHz or more, Flash ROM and we've got a winner.

But the way things are going it's not happening soon.

Yes I have a ruler and my Visor with me and I'm bored to death and didn't like the Treo.

Nothing for me.

However, for the "non-techie" and "non power users", unlike all of us on this and other boards, they like the form factor.

All they want is a easy to operate device to hold their PIM information along with a short learning curve.

I have many friends and relatives in this category.

Ok I agree with you here, I've lots of friends who liked the Treo too but heck, why can't they just keep the 3 inch screen? It's the very reason I got a Visor over a Palm (aside from the fact it's expandable) when I knew nothing about the Palm OS devices.

I'd have to see it in real life but I've used a Palm m100 for awhile and while the 2.5 inch screen on it is quite a bit smaller than the visors (I did a side by side), the resolution is the same so the pixels are smaller and it actually ends up looking quite a bit sharper than the visor. Now this is a monochrome screen so I am not sure about colour but I think in theory it should be the same.
