Has anyone experienced this? When I try to access my shortcuts from within the preferences, I get a fatal exception error. I have no idea what's going on. Any help would be great..

It could be that your Shortcut database has grown excessively large. There is a bug in the PalmOS (prior to 3.3 I believe) that causes 3 duplicate entries to be made in Shortcuts everytime the unit is soft reset.

There is a free utility called dbScan that has an option to "Clean up Shortcuts" and will eliminate all the duplicate entries. Download and install it to see if it helps.

Additionally, dbScan can also detect errors in the Datebook+ database.

A word of caution: DO NOT use the "Init Shortcuts" button as this will delete the Shortcut database entirely.

Thanks for the advice. When I tried to clean up the shortcuts after installing dbscan, the visor crashed again, and again... I ended up hard reseting it and everything seems fine.

Thanks for the link, Mark. I installed it out of boredom, and was a little surprised when it found 300 extra shortcuts! Now the shortcuts work a lot faster.

Wow!!! At 3 entries per reset that's 100 resets for your Visor!!! What are you doing to that poor thing???

That's a great question. The dbscan did find a load of extra shortcuts. I was reseting my Visor at least once a day. Normal? I haven't had to reset it since the hard reset. I'm sure the shortcuts had something to do with it.

I wouldn't call once a day normal at all. I may reset once a week or so, but it usually caused by loading and unloading various apps I'm sure.

I've read where the extra shortcuts can slow things down but haven't heard of any direct correlation to resets. Then again, I don't know much about how the PalmOS works. I'm just a trial and error kind of guy... I'll try almost anything once... and like I said, I'm always adding new stuff to try (can't get enough, you know) so I'm sure I create more than a few instabilities within the Visor

dbScan was actually one of the first pieces of software that went on my IVDx. I routinely use it immediately after any reset so that I stay on top of those duplicate entries.

As for your hard reset, I've only done one and noticed a marked improvement in performance and stability. Of course, that's all in the can now ... But, with BackupBuddy and InstallBuddy I'm relatively confident of my backup protection. When things start to go sour on my Visor, I'll do another hard reset and start fresh.
